Job summary

Valid8 Financial, Inc. seeks a curious student in business, finance, economics or analytics for a hands-on internship in Southern California. You’ll pull client data, identify leakage, shelfware, or recurring issues, and craft AI-assisted analyses with clear recommendations.

You’ll build real client work, gain fluency in AI-supported analysis, and learn how to shape business models from inside a services firm. Claude experience is a plus.

Consulting is finally reaching small and medium businesses.

Strategy consulting has long had a price floor. A partner sold the work, and a pyramid of analysts did the research, the document review, the benchmarking, the models, the first drafts. That pyramid is roughly why serious advisory work tended to start around $100,000, which left the small and mid-sized businesses that make up most of the economy largely outside the market.

That's starting to change. Analytical work that would have taken weeks can now often be done by a agile team with a good AI workflow. It starts to look possible to deliver real advisory work to a 60-person manufacturer in Orange County at a price they'd actually pay.

We're a managed IT and cybersecurity firm working with clients across aerospace, defense, healthcare, and professional services in Southern California. We already have the relationships, and we have an unusual amount of data — years of ticket history, systems inventory, security posture, and software spend for every client we serve. It's close to the raw material an outside consultant would spend weeks trying to assemble. We're building a consulting practice that turns that operational data into recommendations clients can act on.

What you'd actually do

You'd take a live client, pull their operational data, and look for the story in it — where money is leaking, which systems have quietly become shelfware, what's generating the same ticket forty times a month, where they might be exposed on compliance. Then you'd build the analysis and write up the recommendation.The intent is that your work, with your name on it, shapes what we end up advising a client to do, rather than arriving as a research task with the interesting part already decided.What you leave withA portfolio of real client work, which not many interns get. Real fluency in AI-assisted analysis — a competence a lot of firms are hiring for and most programs haven't caught up to yet. And some sense of what it looks like to build a business model from the inside, which is a different education than a semester of cases about someone else's.

A business, finance, economics, or analytics student who's curious about how companies actually run, reasonably comfortable with messy data and Excel, and a clear writer. It helps if you've already been using Claude or similar AI tools on your own coursework and have some feel for where they're genuinely useful and where they aren't. More than any of that, we're looking for someone who wants to go find the answer rather than wait to be handed the question.
