The Business Development Representative provides exceptional service and assistance to new and existing clients and internal customers. The position sells factoring, permitting, and compliance services, processes incoming files related to transportation permits and compliance regulations, assists clients with the functionality of the company’s system, communicates the value-added services, and advises on the procedures for submitting loads to ensure client success. The role also maintains ongoing communication with clients to address any concerns or questions they may have to keep them factoring.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Through a consultative selling approach, evaluate prospective clients and their business objectives to recommend TBS’s services that best achieve the client’s goals, including all relevant permitting and compliance requirements.
  • Manages personal pipeline to ensure all communicated goals are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Review Welcome Packet with clients to educate them on submitting paperwork correctly to avoid payment delays and guide them on using the company’s web-based programs and other value-added services.
  • Send invoices to new and existing clients for all permitting and compliance-related services they select.
  • Monitor departmental systems to ensure all assigned tasks are processed according to the department’s established time frames.
  • Update the company’s customer/software relationship databases (Salesforce & NetSuite) to maintain current and accurate records and provide updates on client calls.
  • Periodically review departmental dashboard reports on unresponsive potential clients to close those accounts.
  • Review departmental communications on applicable state and federal guidelines to maintain an understanding of the competitive industry landscape to articulate the benefits of working with TBS.
  • Respond to all incoming verbal and written departmental communication from internal and external clients while consistently providing exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate with department team members as needed to complete the sales process to help clients begin factoring and be successful.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.
  • Highly skilled in computer, electronic communication, and technology with the ability to quickly learn new software, applications, and systems.
  • Ability to type efficiently and effectively without excessive errors.
  • High-level problem solver.
  • Possesses strong time management skills and multitasking abilities to independently prioritize and complete tasks, with the ability to adapt to changing workloads, deadlines, and schedules.
  • Ability to move in and out and around the office, including furniture and to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Capable of frequently operating standard office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, copy machine, printer, fax machine, and overhead projector systems; possess sufficient visual acuity to view computer monitors or television screens.
  • Capacity to learn quickly to accurately apply and communicate the knowledge.
  • Able to work overtime if required.

Qualifications, Education & Special Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of sales experience in an incentive-driven environment is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Customer Relationship Management databases such as Salesforce is highly preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of prior Customer Service experience preferred.
  • Industry knowledge of transportation, factoring, and finance sectors preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
