Job summary

First Community Bank is seeking a Business Development Officer to source and solicit commercial banking products while delivering superior customer service within the CBO. You will manage credit opportunities, meet loan production goals, and expand cross-sell opportunities.

The role emphasizes relationship management, travel as needed, and collaboration with mortgage, wealth, treasury, and merchant services to maximize referrals and ROE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years in small business and commercial banking or equivalent.
  • Understanding of loan origination, underwriting, documentation, and Treasury Services.
  • Understanding of relationship management.
  • Be a self-starter with minimal management oversight.
  • Strong oral and written communication, with the ability to present.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel, including overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and solicit credit opportunities and relationships typically $1M and less.
  • Achieve production goals in new commercial loans as determined by regional leadership.
  • Provide referrals to Mortgage, Wealth, Treasury Services, and Merchant Services to drive non-interest income.
  • Maintain an effective relationship and portfolio ROE as determined by leadership.
  • Execute a call program to acquire, retain, and expand customer relationships.
  • Maintain pipeline of existing relationships and new prospects.
  • Structure new loan requests in line with credit policy and customer needs.
  • Exercise credit acumen and coordinate with credit staff on pricing and origination.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor; join calls with partners and capitalize on cross-sell opportunities.
  • Represent the Company in the community and participate in organizations to build referrals.
  • Complete training within expected timeframes.

The Business Development Officer sources and solicits commercial banking products within the First Community Bank (FCB) Commercial Banking Operation (CBO) while providing superior customer service. For purposes of this job description, commercial banking means non-consumer loans, non-consumer deposits, and Treasury Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Manage and solicit credit opportunities and relationships typically $1M and less.
  2. Achieve production goals as determined annually by regional leadership in new commercial loans.
  3. Achieve non-interest income goals as determined by regional leadership by providing qualified referrals to Mortgage, Wealth, Treasury Services, and Merchant Services.
  4. Achieve a minimum relationship and portfolio return on equity as determined by regional leadership.
  5. Execute a call program to acquire, retain, and expand customer relationships.
  6. Maintain pipeline of existing relationships and new prospects.
  7. Properly structure new loan requests ensuring adherence to credit policy and to effectively meet the customer needs and expectations.
  8. Properly exercise credit acumen, work in collaboration with credit staff, and demonstrate appropriate pricing and fee origination discipline.
  9. Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, participate in joint calls with business partners, and identify and successfully capitalize on cross-sell opportunities.
  10. Represent the Company in the community through professional and civic involvement. Participate in organizations and projects to establish referral contacts and centers of influence.
  11. Complete training, as assigned, within the expected timeframes.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting and/or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Two years of experience with progressive responsibilities in small business and commercial banking or equivalent business experience
  • Possess an understanding of loan origination, underwriting, documentation, and Treasury Services
  • Possess an understanding of relationship management
  • Be a self-starter with minimal management oversight
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to make oral and written presentations
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer technology with proficiency in all software applications utilized by the FCB CBO
  • Ability to travel as needed, including occasional overnight travel
