Job summary

Dominion Talent Search seeks an experienced Business Development Manager to support a leading global law firm’s Intellectual Property practice. You will work with senior BD leadership and partner stakeholders across an international platform to grow the practice and strengthen client relationships.

You will lead pitches, proposals, RFP responses, and client materials, develop client targeting and cross-selling initiatives, and help integrate lateral partners.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of business development, marketing, or related experience.
  • Strong preference for IP, IP Litigation, Disputes, or other complex legal practice areas.
  • Experience developing pitches, proposals, and RFP responses.
  • Experience working with partners and senior attorneys.
  • Exposure to client relationship development and cross-selling initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior BD leadership and attorneys to execute strategic BD plans for the IP practice.
  • Provide strategic advice and day-to-day BD support to partners and leadership.
  • Lead development of pitches, proposals,. RFPs, capability statements, and client-facing materials.
  • Develop and execute client targeting, cross-selling, and relationship initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for new business, client expansion, and market penetration.
  • Assist with lateral partner onboarding and integration.
  • Help attorneys leverage BD resources effectively.
  • Coordinate with communications/marketing on visibility and rankings.
  • Oversee content maintenance for bios, credentials, and matters.
  • Promote thought leadership and industry engagement.
  • Support budgets, forecasts, and BD metrics.

A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to support its Intellectual Property practice. This is a highly visible, strategic role offering the opportunity to work closely with senior Business Development leadership and key partner stakeholders across a sophisticated international platform.

The Business Development Manager will play an integral role in developing and executing initiatives designed to grow the practice, strengthen client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and enhance the market position of the Intellectual Property team.

This opportunity is ideal for an accomplished law firm business development professional who enjoys working directly with partners, influencing strategy, and taking ownership of sophisticated business development initiatives.

Business Development & Practice Strategy
  • Partner with senior Business Development leadership and attorneys to execute strategic business development plans for the Intellectual Property practice.
  • Provide strategic advice and day-to-day business development support to partners and practice leadership.
  • Lead the development of pitches, proposals, RFP responses, capability statements, and other client-facing materials.
  • Develop and execute client targeting, cross-selling, and relationship-development initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for new business, client expansion, and broader market penetration.
  • Assist with the integration and onboarding of lateral partners and counsel.
  • Help attorneys strengthen their business development capabilities and better leverage available BD resources.
Market Positioning & Communications
  • Work closely with communications and marketing colleagues to enhance the visibility and market positioning of the practice.
  • Take a leadership role in Chambers, Legal 500, and other legal directory submissions and rankings initiatives.
  • Coordinate award submissions and other external recognition opportunities.
  • Help prepare attorneys for directory interviews and provide strategic guidance regarding rankings and market positioning.
  • Oversee the maintenance of practice descriptions, attorney biographies, credentials, representative matters, and other marketing content.
  • Identify opportunities to promote the practice through thought leadership, industry engagement, and relevant communication channels.
Practice Development
  • Support ongoing practice development initiatives, including experience database management and credential audits.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of information used in pitches, proposals, presentations, and marketing materials.
  • Partner with research and other internal teams to gather market intelligence and competitive information.
  • Support practice-group meetings, including developing agendas, presentations, and other strategic materials.
Events & Sponsorships
  • Identify conferences, sponsorships, speaking opportunities, client events, and other initiatives that can enhance the profile of the practice.
  • Evaluate opportunities based on strategic value, relevance, and potential return.
  • Work with attorneys and internal events teams to maximize client-development opportunities associated with events and sponsorships.
  • Assist with invitation strategy, client targeting, speaker identification, and post-event business development efforts.
Business Development Operations & Metrics
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and tracking business development expenditures.
  • Support the measurement and evaluation of business development initiatives.
  • Promote effective use of CRM, experience-management, and other business development technologies.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally bring:

  • 5+ years of business development, marketing, or related experience, preferably within a law firm or other sophisticated professional services environment.
  • Strong preference for experience supporting Intellectual Property, IP Litigation, Litigation, Disputes, or another complex legal practice area.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing pitches, proposals, and RFP responses.
  • Experience working directly with partners, senior attorneys, and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Exposure to client relationship development, client targeting, and cross-selling initiatives.
  • Experience with Chambers, Legal 500, legal directories, awards, and rankings is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A strategic, proactive, and commercially minded approach to business development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CRM platforms, and related business development technologies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international professional environment.
