Business Development Manager – Coprorate New York NY

This position supports the business development and marketing activities for the Global Corporate practice group. The BD Manager will work closely with the Practice Group Leaders (PGL) to execute the groups business development and marketing goals. The BD Manager will report to the Associate Director of Marketing and Business Development and manage direct report(s) as assigned. The ideal candidate will view this as a long-term position and develop a deep understanding of the Global Corporate practice, its transactions, and partners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary business development point of contact for the Global Corporate groups attorneys and PGLs.
  • Create, edit, and publish marketing and BD materials including RFP responses, customized pitches, presentations, practice descriptions, attorney biographies, client alerts, and award and directory submissions.
  • Maintain and oversee updates to deal lists and the experience database.
  • Conduct research on existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry trends to inform BD strategy, plans, presentations, and proposals.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and facilitate collaboration across practice groups and offices to advance firm and practice goals.
  • Liaise with the firms communications team and PGLs on media relations and communications activities relevant to the practice area.
  • In coordination with Events Manager, manage practice-related seminars and client-facing events. Evaluate and advise on new opportunities for the practice area as relevant.
  • In coordination with the communications team, evaluate awards submission opportunities for relevant practices and ensure that practice groups lawyers are provided visibility on various media and social channels.
  • In coordination with the Associate Director of Marketing and Business Development and PGLs, evaluate sponsorship and speaking opportunities for practice group lawyers and manage participation to maximize return on investment.
  • Supervise an assigned Business Development Specialist.
  • Other responsibilities as they are assigned from time to time.
Qualifications/Skills
  • This person must have strong presence, a high degree of poise and the ability to interact effectively, build relationships with multiple constituents, influence action and achieve results.
  • Excellent project-management skills are a must.
  • Professional experience with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • The successful candidate will be able to:
    • Set goals and take responsibility for achieving them.
    • Establish credibility with partners through evincing the right mix of confidence, tact and persistence. Build trust.
    • Develop a plan and execute it with project management skills essential.
    • Collaborate effectively. You will need strong leadership skills to keep projects moving.

    • Effectively delegate: draw out the best in people; set and communicate goals; measure accomplishments, hold people accountable; give practical, impartial feedback.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • MBA or JD preferred.
