Business Developer – Lead Generation Focus

At Outside the Lines (OTL), we design, build, and maintain world-class water features, show fountains, and iconic entertainment environments. Our projects transform places into destinations—from major mixed-use developments and cultural landmarks to experiential public spaces. We’re known for helping our clients create memorable guest experiences that also make sound financial sense.

About the Role

We’re looking for a relationship-driven Business Developer to generate early-stage project leads through strategic networking and outreach. This role is focused exclusively on lead generation—no proposals, no closing, no pressure to “sell.” You’ll identify and qualify new project opportunities aligned with OTL’s sweet spot, then hand them off to senior leadership for pursuit. This is a great opportunity for someone already well-connected in the landscape architecture, architecture, or developer communities, particularly those involved in experiential destinations, civic attractions, or design-forward commercial real estate.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with landscape architects, architects, and developers who consistently work on projects involving water features and immersive public spaces.
  • Identify 6–10 qualified leads per month, with 20–30 meaningful touchpoints weekly (calls, emails, meetings, events).
  • Uncover 10+ early-stage projects annually where OTL can be positioned early, ideally during concept or master planning phases.
  • Attend and represent OTL at 4–6 industry events per year (ASLA, ULI, AIA, etc.).
  • Keep OTL’s CRM up to date with lead intel, contact info, and meeting notes.
  • Brief the internal team monthly on pipeline status and strategic opportunities.

  • A healthy, high-quality lead funnel that reflects OTL’s strategic positioning.
  • Executive introductions that lead to biddable opportunities and early client trust.
  • Market intelligence flowing upstream into OTL’s go/no-go and strategy decisions.
  • A long-term pipeline of early-stage projects where OTL is involved before design has started.

Remote, but proximity to major design markets (e.g., California, Texas, Southeast, etc.) is a plus. Travel to Home and Regional Offices, events, and client meetings is expected occasionally.
