Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you enjoy doing good for the world while generating resources to support social change initiatives, we want to hear from people with a knack for securing business, government, and philanthropic grants that align with our mission to create dynamic, culturally competent, and design-forward solutions.

We generate funding from multiple sectors: business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable speaking with a Chief of Social Impact at a B corp, a Program Officer at a family foundation, or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, your role will include identifying new opportunities to generate revenue and foster business growth.

We are looking for someone who can:

  1. Build the development arm of our company by enhancing our funder research and proposal capabilities for large-scale projects.
  2. Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure new business opportunities, especially with government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
  3. Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communications projects.
  4. This position is likely 10 hours/week but could increase to 20-25 hours/week depending on needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving development efforts to grow our client base and support our mission.
  • Researching grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building sectors.
  • Leading proposal, report, and material preparation for various funding opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the design team to develop online and print communication materials for donors and partners.
  • Developing additional materials and supporting other grant projects as needed.
  • Researching potential funders and presenting summaries to management to prioritize prospects.
  • Coordinating with clients' development teams on proposal crafting.
  • Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submissions.

Qualifications include:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience in development leadership within nonprofit or B2B sales environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to balance transparency and discretion.
  • Experience in startup/small business environments, demonstrating flexibility and multitasking ability.
  • Strong proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Resourceful research skills.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production sectors.
  • Dedication to social and economic justice causes.
