Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you enjoy doing good for the world while generating resources to support social change, we’re looking for individuals with a knack for securing business, government, and philanthropic grants that align with our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions for social impact.

We generate funding from multiple sectors: business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable engaging with a Chief of Social Impact at a B corp, a Program Officer at a family foundation, or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, your role will include identifying new business opportunities to generate revenue and facilitate growth.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Build the development arm of our organization by enhancing our funder research and proposal capacity for large-scale projects.
  • Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure leads from government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
  • Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communication projects.
  • This position is likely 10 hours/week, with potential to increase to 20-25 hours/week based on needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving development efforts to grow our client base and support our mission.
  • Researching grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building sectors.
  • Leading proposal, report, and material preparation for various funding opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the design team to develop online and print collateral for donors and partners.
  • Developing additional materials and supporting other grant projects as needed.
  • Researching potential funders and presenting summaries to management for prioritization.
  • Coordinating with client development teams on proposal crafting.
  • Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submissions.

Qualifications include:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience in nonprofit or B2B sales/leadership.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to balance transparency and discretion.
  • Startup or small business experience preferred, with flexibility and resilience under stress.
  • Strong proposal and business writing skills.
  • Resourceful research abilities.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production sectors.
  • Dedication to social and economic justice.
