Job description

Our client is an industrial water and wastewater solutions company focused on helping facilities nationwide solve complex treatment challenges through engineering expertise, operational experience, innovative technologies, and AI-driven system optimization. They work with industrial facilities across multiple industries to improve compliance, optimize operations, reduce costs, and build scalable long-term wastewater and water recycling solutions.

Our client is an early-stage company, and this role is best suited to individuals that are entrepreneurial and want to own their own business. After two years, the BDM will qualify for company equity. This is a remote work opportunity. Our client is looking for BDMs based in Texas / Pacific NW / Eastern US / Central US.

The Business Development Manager is a driven, technically-grounded sales professional responsible for growing the company’s client base and revenue across Texas. This role prospects, pitches, and closes new accounts in industrial water treatment, municipal wastewater, food & beverage processing, commercial HVAC, and agriculture sectors. The Business Development Manager partners closely with Biz Dev Techs, the Laboratory team, and the CTO to deliver tailored chemical treatment programs, dosing skid solutions, and emerging technology services that differentiate our client in the marketplace. This is a relationship-driven, solution-selling role for a motivated individual who thrives at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, and business.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Prospect, qualify, and develop new customer accounts within an assigned territory covering Texas; target markets include industrial manufacturing, food & beverage processing, commercial HVAC/cooling, municipal wastewater, agriculture, and cannabis/controlled environment agriculture.
  • Conduct discovery meetings and technical assessments at prospective customer sites to understand water chemistry challenges, regulatory drivers, and operational pain points.
  • Develop and present customized water treatment proposals integrating chemical programs, chemical dosing skid solutions, lab analytical services, and emerging technology offerings (next-gen treatment systems).
  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of existing accounts in collaboration with Biz Dev Techs; perform quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and ensure program performance meets customer objectives.
  • Serve as the primary customer relationship owner for key accounts; resolve technical issues by coordinating with the Laboratory Supervisor, Biz Dev Techs, and CTO.
  • Communicate customer needs, market intelligence, and competitive insights to the leadership team to inform product development and strategy.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records including all prospects, activities, proposals, and account data.
  • Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets and KPIs as established by executive leadership.
  • Represent the company at industry trade shows, conferences, and networking events.
  • Collaborate with the AI Developer and AI Water Programmer teams to position and demonstrate AI-powered water treatment monitoring and optimization tools as a competitive differentiator.
  • Support marketing efforts by providing market feedback, case study data, and customer success stories.
  • Ensure all sales agreements and contracts comply with company policies and applicable Texas law.

Required qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Business, or a related field; or equivalent technical background with demonstrated sales success.
  • Minimum 3 years of B2B sales experience, with at least 2 years in water treatment chemistry, environmental services, or related industrial services.
  • Solid understanding of industrial water treatment applications including boiler water, cooling towers, DAF systems, and process water.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a sales pipeline, close new business, and grow existing accounts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical content persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a clean driving record; must be able to travel throughout the Texas territory. Regular driving throughout the Texas territory (up to 50–60% travel).
  • Occasional client site visits involving industrial environments, PPE requirements, and physical site walkthroughs.

Preferred qualifications for this role include:

  • Established network of industrial, municipal, or food processing contacts in Texas.
  • Familiarity with chemical dosing skid solutions, treatment system design, or process equipment sales.
  • Experience positioning water technology solutions to environmental/regulatory compliance-driven buyers.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred given the Texas market.
