Job summary

An established industry player in Shipping and Logistics is on the lookout for a proactive Business Development Manager to drive growth in Cape Town. Job description

Our client, a leader in the Shipping and Logistics industry, is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join their dynamic team in Cape Town.

Position reporting to: Managing Director

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12
  • Tertiary Freight qualification is advantageous
  • Knowledge of Shipshape or similar software
  • Several years of industry experience in supply chain, warehousing, management, or operations
  • Leadership experience
Main Job Functions
  • Acquire new business with a target at least twice the basic salary
  • Earn commissions based on agency/documentation, freight, transport recoveries; minimum commission rates are 15% for the first year, 10% for the second year, and 5% for subsequent years
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 ongoing target accounts
  • Conduct regular client calls on a rotational basis
  • Attend industry events such as exhibitions and conferences
  • Identify customer support needs and address complaints, including overdue accounts collection
  • Focus on re-securing lost business and retaining threatened accounts
  • Manage your sales pipeline and submit weekly reports every Friday
  • Ensure monthly collation of sales reports
  • Monitor competitor activity and industry trends
  • Assist with estimates and update the estimate register; follow up on outcomes
  • Familiarize yourself with digital/social media marketing strategies
  • Educate clients on Shipshape Syntrac (internal software) and promote its advantages
  • Highlight benefits of our AEO status
  • Implement activities on the CRM - Shipshape
  • Build strong relationships with operational staff and the sales team
  • Organize and manage customer workshops as needed
  • Assist with debtors management
  • Perform any other duties related to this role
  • Support promotional activities such as golf days
