Job summary

Kimmel Associates is seeking a Business Development Director to lead market growth in targeted regions and sectors within the construction industry. This senior leader translates market intelligence, client relationships, and strategic opportunities into a qualified pipeline and successful pursuits.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of business development in the construction industry
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Proven success leading competitive, qualification-based pursuits and/or project procurement

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute regional and/or sector-specific business development strategies and annual tactical plans
  • Identify market conditions, economic trends, emerging opportunities, new markets, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Lead long-term pipeline development, revenue forecasting, and opportunity planning
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders
  • Understand client purchasing behaviors, organizational structures, decision makers, project drivers, contract terms, and competitive conditions
  • Lead complex pursuits, including positioning, value proposition development, storyboarding, proposal strategy, final review, and interview preparation
  • Coordinate cross-functional pursuit teams involving operations, estimating, scheduling, BIM, and other technical disciplines
  • Identify opportunities for market diversification and strategic partnerships
  • Develop and communicate compelling value propositions, including design and constructability improvements
  • Own the go/no-go process and prioritize opportunities based on strategic and financial objectives
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Business Development Managers and Senior Business Development Managers
  • Partner with Operations leadership on forecasting, market planning, and growth initiatives
  • Represent the company at industry organizations, client events, and community initiatives
  • Maintain accurate lead, opportunity, and pursuit information within the company's CRM
  • Oversee the quality and development of RFQ/RFP responses, proposals, presentations, and related pursuit materials
  • Participate in leadership initiatives and contribute to operating group strategic goals and personnel development

About the Position

Our client is seeking a Business Development Director to lead market growth throughout an assigned region and/or sector. This senior leadership position will be responsible for translating market intelligence, client relationships, and strategic opportunities into a qualified pipeline and successful project pursuits.

The Business Development Director will work closely with operations, estimating, scheduling, BIM, and executive leadership to develop pursuit strategies, differentiate the organization in the marketplace, and position the company for profitable growth.

This individual will own the business development process from market planning and relationship development through opportunity qualification, pursuit strategy, proposal development, and final interview.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • 8–12+ years of business development, marketing, or related experience within the construction industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Marketing, Construction Management, Urban Planning, Business, or a related field preferred
  • Proven success leading competitive, qualification-based pursuits and/or project procurement
  • Extensive knowledge of construction markets, project delivery methods, and industry trends
  • Experience developing and executing strategic business development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives, clients, partners, and internal stakeholders
  • Proven experience leading and developing a business development team
  • Strong understanding of construction operations and financial considerations
  • Excellent communication, presentation, relationship-building, and listening skills
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate opportunities from both strategic and financial perspectives
  • Highly proactive, strategic, and execution-oriented
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning capabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/business development systems
  • Demonstrated track record of success in construction business development
