BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR – COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

Location: McKinney, Texas

Employment Type: Full-Time, In-Office

Reports To: Senior Leadership

Travel: Local travel required for client meetings, networking events, job walks, and industry events

Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 per year, depending on experience

POSITION SUMMARY

Our Client is seeking a motivated, relationship-oriented Business Development Coordinator with prior experience in the commercial construction industry to help identify new opportunities, build relationships, and support company growth throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth market.

This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who understands the commercial construction environment and wants to transition into, or further develop, a career in business development, client relations, and sales.

Candidates do not need extensive quota-carrying sales experience or an established book of business. However, previous experience within commercial general contracting, specialty construction, or a closely related construction market is required. This may include experience in project coordination, estimating support, preconstruction, subcontractor or vendor relations, client support, construction administration, field operations, or sales support.

The Business Development Coordinator will work closely with senior leadership, estimating, operations, and project management to identify and qualify opportunities, maintain consistent client and prospect follow-up, and help turn the right opportunities into new work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help identify commercial construction opportunities, target clients, referral sources, and industry partners throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
  • Research prospective clients, companies, projects, property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and other key contacts before outreach or meetings.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with prospective clients, existing clients, subcontractors, vendors, and industry contacts.
  • Conduct outreach and follow-up through phone calls, emails, LinkedIn, referrals, networking, and in-person relationship building.
  • Attend local networking events, client meetings, job walks, trade events, and other construction industry functions.
  • Help qualify opportunities by gathering information about the client, project type, scope, timing, budget, location, and decision-making process.
  • Coordinate with leadership, estimating, and operations to determine whether opportunities are a strong fit
  • Assist with proposals, qualification packages, presentations, project information, and other client-facing materials.
  • Maintain accurate contact information, notes, opportunity status, and follow-up tasks in the company CRM or tracking system.
  • Ensure prospective clients receive timely communication and consistent follow-up after conversations, meetings, job walks, and other interactions.
  • Track opportunities, meetings, proposals, and next steps throughout the business development process.
  • Support the transition of awarded projects to estimating, project management, and operations.
  • Stay informed about local commercial construction activity, market trends, competitor activity, and potential upcoming projects.
  • Represent the Client professionally and build trust through responsiveness, consistency, and strong follow-through.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business development and company growth.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1–3+ years of experience working in or directly supporting commercial general contracting, specialty contracting, or a closely related construction market.
  • Familiarity with the commercial construction customer landscape, project pursuit process, and relationships involved in winning new work.
  • Experience may come from project coordination, estimating support, preconstruction, subcontractor or vendor relations, client support, construction administration, field operations, sales support, or a similar commercial construction role.
  • Ability to speak credibly about commercial construction projects, clients, bidding or pursuit activity, and how opportunities progress toward award.
  • Extensive sales or business development experience is not required, but candidates should be comfortable developing relationships and initiating professional conversations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organization, follow-up, and time-management skills.
  • Dependable and able to manage follow-up responsibilities without constant reminders.
  • Comfortable using or learning CRM systems, spreadsheets, and other tools to maintain contacts and track opportunities.
  • Ability to work effectively with leadership, estimating, operations, and project management teams.
  • Willingness to attend local client meetings, networking events, job walks, and industry functions.
  • Ability to work full-time in the McKinney, Texas office.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Direct experience working for a commercial general contractor or specialty contractor serving the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
  • Exposure to business development, preconstruction, estimating, client relations, proposals, qualification packages, or project pursuits.
  • Existing relationships with owners, developers, property managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, or other commercial construction contacts in DFW.
  • Experience attending construction industry networking events, job walks, bid meetings, or client meetings.
  • Experience reading and understanding basic construction plans, scopes, bid documents, or project information.
  • Experience with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, LinkedIn, or construction industry software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing, or a related field is helpful but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE
  • This is a full-time, in-office position based in McKinney, Texas.
  • The role involves a combination of office work, prospect research, outreach and follow-up, client interaction, networking, and occasional project site visits.
  • Local travel throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area is required for client meetings, networking events, job walks, and other industry activities.
