The Hartz Mountain Corporation is seeking a hands-on Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Engineer for a hybrid role based in Secaucus, NJ. You will drive enterprise-wide continuity, backup optimization, and rapid recovery across Windows, Linux, cloud, and storage platforms.

You will join the Cybersecurity and IT teams to strengthen resilience, participate in DR testing, and refine recovery procedures to keep critical services available during disruptions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience.
• Experience in disaster recovery planning, testing, backup, and restoration.
• Knowledge of Linux administration and enterprise infrastructure.
• Familiarity with VMware, Oracle DB architecture, and cloud services.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT business continuity and disaster recovery program development and testing.
• Develop DR plans to ensure data integrity and rapid recovery during disruptions.

The Role

Are you passionate about building resilient technology environments and ensuring businesses can thrive through disruption? We're seeking a Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BCDR) Engineer to lead and evolve our enterprise-wide continuity and recovery capabilities.

In this critical role, you'll drive the strategy, planning, testing, and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity programs that protect our most essential systems, data, and operations. You'll work across a diverse technology landscape including Windows and Linux servers, cloud platforms, storage systems, virtualization technologies, and mission-critical business applications, ensuring the organization is prepared to respond and recover quickly from unexpected events.

As a trusted technical expert, you will optimize backup and recovery solutions, lead recovery readiness initiatives, and play a vital role on the Cybersecurity Incident Response Team, helping safeguard the business against operational and cyber threats.

Your Responsibilities

Enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Management

• Serve as the lead engineer and primary strategist for the development, maintenance, and execution of the organization’s IT business continuity and disaster recovery program, including comprehensive planning, rigorous testing, exhaustive documentation, and continuous recovery readiness
• Lead the development, testing, and execution of disaster recovery plans to support data integrity, system availability, and comprehensive recovery documentation. Follow and support established policies and procedures and participate in semiannual disaster recovery testing to validate data replication, redundancy, and archiving controls
• Lead the backup and recovery strategies that promote data integrity and business continuity. Help implement and maintain the infrastructure required for on-site and off-site backups, data archiving, redundancy, and tape storage, and participate in restoration efforts for enterprise servers, networks, and applications during service disruptions
• Perform and evaluate disaster recovery simulations regularly to identify gaps, validate replication and archiving processes, and restoration of critical services
• Collaborate on the maintenance of servers, networks, and databases to ensure resilience and continuity during disruptions
• Serve as a key member of the primary IT disaster recovery team and execute recovery procedures to restore systems and services as quickly and effectively as possible during business disruptions
• Support the implementation of enterprise-grade security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and data encryption, while ensuring alignment with organizational security policies and compliance requirements

Cybersecurity Planning and Operations

• Partner with the cybersecurity team to secure the organization’s IT infrastructure, enforce security policies, manage network security and access controls, and support vulnerability management and incident response activities
• Monitor networks and systems for suspicious activity, vulnerabilities, and performance issues continuously
• Analyze, respond to, and help remediate cybersecurity incidents and attacks
• Design, implement, and maintain firewalls and network architecture; help define data protection policies; and participate in risk assessments to identify weaknesses and recommend improvements

Linux Systems Administration

• Administer, monitor, and optimize Linux server environments to support enterprise applications, infrastructure stability, and operational performance
• Install, configure, operate, and monitor Linux server hardware and software to maintain system health and availability
• Perform hardware and software installation, upgrades, and maintenance for enterprise servers
• Test and deploy enterprise-wide system configuration changes
• Develop Linux administration test plans and execute testing for related projects
• Create and maintain batch processing environments, including oversight of the daily batch cycle and Linux batch reporting subsystem
• Develop and evaluate complex technical solutions, system standards, and performance thresholds
• Recommend practical solutions to maximize system performance
• Support vendor coordination for hardware support and enterprise backup solutions
• Support enterprise storage administration across platforms such as HP 3PAR, Pure Storage, and cloud storage solutions

Network and Infrastructure Management

• Support and enhance network, server, and virtualization environments to maintain performance, scalability, and operational continuity
• Monitor and evaluate network performance, reliability, and scalability; troubleshoot and resolve network and security issues
• Apply hands-on troubleshooting and performance tuning expertise across firewalls, managed switches, VLANs, and routers
• Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
• Install and configure new hardware and software
• Support network planning by monitoring performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and assessing future capacity needs
• Implement and support VMware environments
• Provide Windows Server engineering and administration support
• Coordinate the maintenance of network systems
• Support the introduction and integration of new technologies into existing data center environments.
• Perform routine audits of systems and software
• Create and maintain current operational documentation, including internal and external contact and escalation repositories

Firewall Administration

• Support firewall operations, policy enforcement, and network security controls to protect enterprise systems and connectivity
• Implement, upgrade, and maintain firewall hardware and software, including Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)
• Develop, optimize, and document firewall rules and security policies to balance protection with business needs
• Analyze logs to identify suspicious activity, potential breaches, and performance bottlenecks
• Diagnose connectivity issues and support response activities for security incidents
• Support VPN client infrastructure, network segmentation, and compliance with security standards

Application Support

• Provide technical support to internal application teams
• Support 24x7 network and infrastructure availability requirements

Requirements

You’ll Need

• Education and Experience~ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field with 7+ years of professional experience; or 10+ years of combined professional experience including education, certifications, and training in lieu of degree
• Infrastructure & Networking~ Strong knowledge of networking, distributed systems, and enterprise infrastructure concepts
• Disaster Recovery Management~ Experience in disaster recovery planning, testing, backup and restoration, data replication, archiving, and recovery of enterprise systems (Veeam backup software & Data Replication)
• Linux Administration~ Experience administering, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux systems and related enterprise infrastructure
• Oracle E-Business Suite and database architecture
• SaaS and Cloud based services
• Cron Scripting
• LAN/WAN (Local / Wide Area Network) and Wireless Methodology
• Active Directory Services and Azure Directory Services, including security enforcement
• VMware controller and datastore administration

• Incident Response & Support~ Ability to respond promptly to emergency outages, both on-site and remotely, as needed
• Business Travel~ Ability to travel domestically as needed a few times a year

Highly Desired Experience & Skills

• Network Security~ Firewall administration for internet and internal network security
• Cybersecurity Tools~ Knowledge of XDR (Extended Detection and Response) and EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) tools
• Storage Solutions~ Experience with data replication for Pure1, QNAP storage devices and automated tape library
• SonicWall Administration~ Experience with SonicWall firewall administration and network security technologies

Salary Details

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000 and $160,000. The specific salary offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience for this position. This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award.
