Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst – Lab to Platform to support scientific applications, connected laboratory workflows, and laboratory automation initiatives. This role will partner with scientists and technology teams to translate research needs into requirements, configurations, and integrations that improve laboratory operations and data quality.
The ideal candidate brings a successful project delivery record working directly with scientists and understands how registration systems, sample management, electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), instruments, automation, and research data platforms fit together. Experience in either chemistry or biologics is welcome; familiarity with both is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with scientists to understand research processes, document requirements, and identify opportunities to improve laboratory workflows.
- Map current and future workflows across entity registration, end-to-end sample and inventory management, ELNs, assay and method registration, and instrument data capture.
- Translate scientific requirements into functional specifications, workflow designs, and system configuration requirements.
- Support laboratory automation and workflow integration initiatives, including automations within the Lab in the Loop program.
- Define requirements for automated instrument data capture and integration with scientific applications.
- Collaborate with scientists and technical teams on ELN configurations that support daily research activities and capture structured, high-quality experimental data.
- Support the flow of laboratory data into the data lakehouse, addressing data quality and workflow requirements.
- Work with chemistry and biologics teams to identify common needs and accommodate domain-specific workflows.
- Support user acceptance testing, implementation, training, and adoption.
- Assess whether delivered solutions improve scientific workflows and provide the intended business value.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated Business Analyst experience with a successful track record delivering scientific application projects in partnership with scientists.
- Experience supporting chemistry or biologics research environments.
- Project experience in several of the following areas: entity registration, sample and inventory management, ELN implementation and configuration, assay or method registration, instrument integration, and laboratory automation.
- Experience with sample management, workflow automation, and automated instrument data capture.
- Ability to translate scientific processes into clear business and functional requirements and understand how laboratory applications, instruments, and data platforms connect across the research lifecycle.
- Strong requirements documentation, process mapping, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baseline experience in both chemistry and biologics to support conversations across research teams.
- Experience with Lab in the Loop or comparable connected laboratory automation initiatives.
- Experience realizing value from ELNs beyond initial rollout through practical workflow configurations and improved data capture.
- Familiarity with integrating laboratory data into a data lakehouse and connecting registration, sample management, ELNs, and instrument systems into cohesive scientific workflows.
Successful Candidates Will Have
- A collaborative approach to working with scientists and technical teams.
- The ability to understand complex scientific workflows and translate them into practical technology solutions.
- Strong attention to data quality, usability, and the needs of laboratory users.
- A proactive approach to identifying dependencies, resolving gaps, and improving how laboratory systems work together.
