A World Class Company
Osprey Life Sciences, LLC
is a leading consulting and services firm specializing in providing comprehensive technology solutions for Life Sciences IT organizations. Our primary focus is on assisting these organizations in effectively and efficiently delivering solutions that support their business objectives and their mission to enhance human health and improve lives.
Position Overview
The Multimodal Discovery Platforms team supports digital platforms that enable scientific discovery across genetics, multi-omics, spatial biology, digital pathology, high-content imaging, flow cytometry, and medical imaging. The team partners closely with research scientists, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, and technology teams to build scalable, AI-ready digital platforms that accelerate target discovery, biomarker research, translational science, RNAi discovery and delivery, and preclinical development.
We are seeking a Business Analyst – Multimodal Discovery Platforms to serve as a strategic bridge between scientific teams and technology organizations. This individual will translate complex biological and analytical workflows into clear business and technical requirements, user stories, process and data-flow diagrams, and actionable specifications for platform and data engineering teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong Business Analysis capabilities with a working understanding of bioinformatics, multi-omics data, scientific workflows, and modern cloud-based data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with wet-lab scientists, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, translational researchers, data engineers, and platform teams to understand scientific workflows, data needs, and technology requirements.
- Map end-to-end scientific processes and data lifecycles across modalities including single-cell omics, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, digital pathology, high-content imaging, and related discovery technologies.
- Document current-state and future-state workflows, identifying gaps, bottlenecks, dependencies, and opportunities to improve data ingestion, processing, analysis, visualization, and reuse.
- Translate scientific use cases and analytical challenges into structured business requirements, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, system workflows, and technical specifications.
- Develop business capability, process, architecture, and data-flow diagrams that clearly communicate how scientific data moves across platforms and applications.
- Collaborate with platform and data engineering teams to ensure requirements accurately reflect scientific needs and are technically actionable.
- Maintain and groom the product backlog, support prioritization, and coordinate sprint goals and delivery activities in partnership with the Platform Lead.
- Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, workflow reviews, stakeholder discussions, and solution-validation activities.
- Develop user documentation, platform guidance, and IT SOPs to support adoption and effective use of scientific platforms.
- Support implementation, testing, rollout, and continuous improvement of digital capabilities supporting discovery and translational research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Technical Product Analyst, or similar role within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences R&D, or scientific research environments.
- Strong familiarity with multi-omics and scientific data modalities, such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), spatial omics/transcriptomics, proteomics, genetics/genomics, digital pathology, high-content imaging, or related biological assay workflows.
- Strong technology orientation combined with an understanding of bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering, or scientific data environments.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific requirements into clear, actionable requirements for software, platform, and data engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies, including backlog management, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, and delivery tracking.
- Proficiency with Jira and Confluence and workflow/process-mapping tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or Draw.io.
- Working understanding of cloud-native data and analytics platforms such as AWS, Databricks, and/or Snowflake.
- Experience documenting data flows, system interactions, business capabilities, and current-state/future-state architectures.
- Excellent facilitation, analytical, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work fluently across scientific, computational, data, and software engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting digital platforms within Discovery, Translational Medicine, Preclinical Development, or R&D Informatics.
- Experience with scientific data platforms, bioinformatics pipelines, laboratory-generated datasets, or cloud-based analytical workspaces.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-ready scientific data environments and the data foundations required to support advanced analytics.
- Experience supporting platform implementation, UAT, user adoption, and change management in a scientific organization.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role requires more than traditional Business Analysis expertise. The successful candidate will understand the language and workflows of scientific research well enough to uncover what scientists truly need, while possessing the technical fluency to translate those needs into requirements that data and engineering teams can successfully build against.
