Job summary

Belton Independent School District is seeking a Dispatcher, Transportation to coordinate assignments and schedules for bus drivers, routes, and vehicles, ensuring safe and economical transportation services. The role requires monitoring two-way radio communications and responding promptly to operational needs.

The incumbent will manage driver absences, assign substitutes, and handle field trip mileage and route data, while ensuring compliance with safety policies and DOT requirements.

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma (Preferred)
• Valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (Preferred)
• Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to use maps to follow routes and locate addresses; read and understand policies and procedures; pass required DOT tests and physical; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Experience: Three (3) years experience in transportation.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch drivers and vehicles daily; communicate via telephone and two-way radio.
• Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications.
• Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls.
• Assign substitute drivers and monitors for shifts as needed.
• Respond to driver requests for assistance and dispatch emergency services and equipment as needed.
• Assist with processing requests for extracurricular transportation and arrange for drivers and equipment as needed.
• Prepare data to plan bus routes and post route schedules; notify stakeholders of changes.
• Distribute keys, books, and radios to personnel.
• Process field trip mileage and vehicle data.
• Drive bus on assigned routes and to extracurricular activities.
• Anticipate problems and adjust plans to ensure safety and reduce delays.
