Job summary

CTTRANSIT in Hartford, CT is seeking Bus Operators to safely drive transit buses, collect fares, verify passes, and assist passengers with courtesy. Flexible schedules include days, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Applicants must hold a valid CDL (Class A or B) with Passenger Endorsement and one of S/V/F/A endorsements, be at least 21, and have a HS diploma or GED. A 6–8 week training program pays a training rate of $25.80 per hour; after training, wage increases to the starting rate

Responsibilities

• Operates transit buses and wheelchair lifts on assigned routes.
• Collects fares and verifies passes/IDs.
• Receives and transmits via two-way radio; coordinates transfers.
• Reports delays, accidents, detours, inspections, and other incidents.
• Completes required reports and provides input for safety improvements.

Job description

Safely operating transit buses on routes, providing courteous, helpful customer service; collecting fares; following schedules; maintaining excellent attendance and working cooperatively with other employees on the team.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include days, nights, weekends, split shifts and holidays as assigned.

All bus operator trainees must attend 6-8 weeks of training.

Training rate of $25.80

Once training is complete the rate will increase to the starting rate of a Bus Operator.

Operates transit buses and wheelchair lifts, collects fares and verifies valid passes and identification cards, receives and transmits communications over a two-way radio, coordinates passenger transfers, reports schedule delays, completes and files reports including accidents, detours, vehicle inspections, fares and passes, and other incidents, makes recommendations for safety and route improvements.

• Must have a valid class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
• At least 21 years old valid CDL required (Class A or B)
• HS Diploma or GED
• Must have P( Passenger) Endorsement and in addition one of the following Endorsements:
  • S(School Bus) or
  • V(Student Transportation Vehicle) or
  • F(Taxi, Livery, Service Bus, Motor Bus or Motor Coach) or
  • A(Activity Vehicle)
• Must be air brake qualified (No L Restriction)
• No more than (1) moving violation in the last 3 years
• Minimum (1) year experience in a position requiring excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work all shifts (which includes nights, weekends, holidays and split shifts)
• Must not have outside employment that interferes with employment at CTtransit.
• Ability to pass DOT physical exam, and pending CDL tests, pre-employment testing and meet the physical requirements of the position
• Must be able to attend training
• Must be able to effectively read, write and comprehend basic English.
