Job summary

Gadsden School Dist 32 is seeking a bus driver for district-wide transportation services. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Bus Driver’s Certificate with CPR/First Aid, a CDL with Passenger Endorsement, and IVP fingerprint clearance.

Duties include supervising students, ensuring safety during transfers, and maintaining vehicles. Starting pay is $20.19 per hour for 211 days of work.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  • Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of ensuring student safety during transport to/from and during field trips.
  • Cleans assigned vehicles for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitization of vehicle.
  • Drives vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers safely on overscheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips.
  • Prepares reports for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and/or staff for the purpose of providing information and coordinating transportation services.

Essential Functions
  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  • Assists students and other passengers (e.g. chaperon field trips, transport to/from airport, CTY classes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student safety during transport to/from and during field trips.
  • Cleans assigned vehicles (e.g. interior, exterior, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitization of vehicle.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Drives vehicles (e.g. school buses, vans, etc.) for the purpose of transporting passengers overscheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area (e.g. clean/organize shop during summer, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of tools and equipment, and safety within the workspace.
  • Monitors students and other passengers during transit (e.g. directs Bus Aide when handling severe behavior problems, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
  • Performs minor body work (e.g. front ends, fenders, upholstery, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the appearance and safe operation of the vehicles.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
  • Prepares reports (e.g. mileage, behavior reports, student counts, maintenance records, work orders, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
  • Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and/or staff (e.g. schedule, delays, unusual pick-ups, etc.)

for the purpose of providing the necessary information regarding transportation services.

Experience

Job related experience is required.

Education

Certificates and Licenses
