Job summary

Cathay Express Transportation is seeking safety-focused Bus Operators to transport individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to and from day habilitation programs across New York City.

Operators ensure safe vehicle operation, on-time service, and a respectful, positive transportation experience for every passenger. CDL class B/C with Passenger endorsement is preferred; paid training may be available.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid New York State driver's license required.
• CDL Class B or C with Passenger endorsement preferred; paid CDL training may be available.
• Clean driving record and ability to meet company driving standards.
• Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and DOT physical (when applicable).
• Ability to work split shifts, Monday through Friday.
• Previous transportation, healthcare, school bus, paratransit, or customer service experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate company vehicles in compliance with traffic laws, DOT regulations, policies, and client requirements.
• Transport passengers on schedule using assigned routes and manifests.
• Assist with safe loading and unloading of passengers with the Matron.
• Operate wheelchair lifts and secure wheelchairs and mobility devices.
• Complete required trip sheets, mileage logs, inspection reports, and documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide professional, courteous service to passengers, families, program staff, and coworkers.

Position Summary

Cathay Express Transportation is seeking safety focused and customer service oriented Bus Operators to transport individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to and from day habilitation programs throughout New York City. The Bus Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the assigned vehicle, reliable on-time service, and providing a safe, respectful, and positive transportation experience for every passenger.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Transportation & Safety

• Safely operate company vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, DOT regulations, company policies, and client requirements.
• Transport passengers safely and on schedule using assigned routes and manifests.
• Assist with the safe loading and unloading of passengers while working closely with the assigned Matron.
• Operate wheelchair lifts and properly secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices when assigned.
• Ensure all passengers are safely seated and secured before moving the vehicle.

Vehicle Operations

• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Report accidents, incidents, mechanical defects, damage, or safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean, safe, and service-ready condition.
• Fuel vehicles as required and ensure all required safety equipment is available and operational.

Communication

• Maintain communication with Dispatch regarding delays, route changes, emergencies, and service issues.
• Complete required trip sheets, mileage logs, inspection reports, and other transportation documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide professional and courteous service to passengers, families, program staff, and coworkers.

Professional Responsibilities

• Report to work on time and maintain dependable attendance.
• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and client requirements.
• Attend required meetings, training sessions, and safety refreshers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
