Job summary

Transdev is seeking a Shop Foreman in Maryland to perform A-level mechanic duties, conduct PMs, and prepare buses for DOT inspections while directly supervising mechanics and maintenance staff.

You will schedule repairs, manage outside contract labor, monitor safety and regulatory requirements, and collaborate with HR and operations to keep buses running efficiently. Strong communication and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• CDL Class B (with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred).
• 7+ years of experience in repair and maintenance of heavy-duty automotive/transit equipment.
• 3+ years of supervisory experience.
• Broad understanding of mechanical systems in heavy-duty transport.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible schedules.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Performs the duties of an A-level mechanic, including PMs and preparing buses for DOT inspections.
• Supervises mechanics, investigates, provides information, and makes and administers decisions concerning employee discipline.
• Evaluates the performance of both new and current employees.
• Facilitates and schedules training of both new and current employees.
• Works with Human Resources by participating in interview panels for maintenance positions.
• Monitors the budget at a sectional level.
• Assisting with scheduling outside contract labor for special projects and monitoring the laborers' performance.
• Conducts daily safety/shift turnover meetings with both mechanics and supervisors on duty.
• Works with facility maintenance to communicate issues relevant to a safe and pleasant work environment.
• Schedules major and minor repairs.
• Creates work orders for repairs to coaches, reviews past work orders for repairs to coaches, and reviews and closes current work orders.
• Assigns work to mechanics based on the work required and the mechanic's qualifications.
• Makes on-the-spot decisions regarding repairs and, at times, makes on-the-spot repairs when necessary.
• Communicates with mechanics on diagnosis and procedures for repair and assists with technical questions.
• Monitors tracking sheets generated by management to ensure repairs are completed promptly.
• Monitors the work of both internal employees and vendors for quality and quantity.
• Works with Parts personnel to obtain the correct replacement parts.
• Decide which coaches to pull/swap out and relay this information to operations at least 8 hours before.
• Lists and schedules coaches for PMI’s and other work and communicates this information with operations.
• Performs other tasks and projects as assigned
• Proficient with Microsoft Office

• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
• Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does
• authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
