Job summary

The Brookings School District 5-1 is seeking a dedicated bus driver to transport students to and from school and school-related activities in a safe, orderly, and timely fashion.

Must hold a valid South Dakota CDL, pass drug/alcohol testing, and maintain an exemplary driving record. The role requires strong communication, valid medical certification, and adherence to district policies with performance evaluated by the Director of Transportation.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in South Dakota and submit to drug/alcohol testing.
• Possess strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
• Must hold proper medical certification as required by Brookings School District and state authorities.
• Background checks required for final candidates.

• Additional board-approved qualifications may apply.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to and from school or school-related activities in a safe, timely manner.
• Maintain compliance with CDL requirements and traffic laws.
• Keep a detailed log of each trip and report as required.
• Ensure order and safety of all passengers on the bus.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and inspect equipment on a scheduled basis.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by transportation leadership.

Primary Function

The bus driver is responsible for transportation in a safe, orderly and timely fashion, to and from school or school related activities.

Performance Responsibilities

• To transport students to and from school or school related activities in safe and timely fashion.
• Must consistently comply with Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements.
• To maintain a log and report on each trip.
• Must consistently comply with traffic and driving laws.
• To maintain order and control of all passengers on the bus or other school vehicle.
• To keep the bus (or other school vehicle) in clean and proper order.
• To check the motor, tires and other necessary equipment on a scheduled basis for safe operation, and report any problems to the transportation director.
• Additional duties that may be required or assigned.

Terms Of Employment

The Board shall offer a letter of agreement with wages and benefits to be determined as delineated in the Classified Employee Handbook subject to the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee and the Brookings School Board. Hours and time schedules to be determined by the Director of Transportation with the approval of the superintendent or his/her designee.

Evaluation Procedure

This position is responsible to the Director of Transportation and performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.
