Job summary

Reeds Spring School District is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school. The role requires a valid Class B license with passenger and student endorsements, a DOT physical, and a clean background.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at contract time.
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements.
  • Must maintain a valid Class B license with both passenger and student endorsement.
  • Successfully completes DOT physical annually and passes random drug screening.
  • Must submit and pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Know and apply State Laws for School Bus Drivers.
  • Know and follow Commercial Drivers Licensing laws and regulations.
  • Utilize positive, constructive student control techniques.
  • Complete pre-trip inspections and mileage, student count, discipline, and other reports.
  • Record daily pre-trip inspection and report any mechanical issues immediately.
  • Maintain interior cleanliness of the bus and monitor safety of riders.
  • Follow route directions and load/unload students at authorized stops.
  • Present a positive image for students through attire and conduct.
  • Attend safety meetings and participate in driver collaboration.

Support Staff
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at contract time
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements
  • Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Must maintain a valid Class B license with both passenger and student endorsement
  • Successfully completes DOT physical annually
  • Successfully pass initial and random drug screening
  • Must submit and pass background check

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

Performance Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and utilization of State Laws for School Bus Drivers
  • Knowledge of Commercial Drivers Licensing laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of and utilizes positive, constructive student control techniques
  • Completes all reports (pre-trip inspection, mileage, student count, discipline, accident and others as needed)
  • Properly performs and records daily pre-trip inspection of bus and vehicular damage
  • Knowledgeable of and reports mechanical problems immediately
  • Maintains interior cleanliness of bus by sweeping and or mopping daily
  • Knowledge of all emergency procedures including two school bus evacuation drills yearly
  • Knowledgeable of District discipline procedure and appropriate and acceptable behavior for riders
  • Maintains control of students through positive student management techniques
  • Provides appropriate information for student referral and/or discipline problems
  • Utilizes safety knowledge to maintain utmost care of students
  • Follows route directions and informs supervisor of changes immediately
  • Allows students to load and unload at authorized stops
  • Wears seat belt whenever bus is in motion
  • Present on the bus whenever there are students in the vehicle
  • Provides positive input during safety meeting
  • Provides a positive image for students through proper attire, language and health habits
  • Maintains composure under stressful situations
  • Attends assigned safety meetings and/or workshops
  • Reports all accidents and/or near accidents to supervisor
  • Responsible to see that bus is fueled
  • Reports potentially hazardous situations
  • Willingness to work with supervisor and drivers
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must report all major misconduct of children under their supervision
  • Shall report any accident or injury to pupils while in their care
  • Use of cell phone as outlined by school policy
  • Proper use of time clock system District has in place
  • Maintain confidential nature of all school-related matters
  • Other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee

EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the School Board

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel. Bus drivers may be suspended from duty at any time by the Superintendent or designee for inefficiency, breach of rules, insubordination, or other good cause. Final dismissal from service to be made at the discretion of the Board of Education.
