JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: School Bus Driver

2024-2025 School Year Pay: Base $60.39 per route + experience (routes avg approx 1 hour - 2 routes per day - am & pm); activity driving = base $18.02 per hour + experience

REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education Level: High School Diploma. Valid South Dakota CDL with bus endorsement. No record of DUI convictions in past 10 years.

B. Experience Desired: One year bus experience

C. Physical Requirements: Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam. Must pass pre-duty and randomlyadministered drug and alcohol tests. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand/arm movements.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director

WORKS WITH: Transportation Director, Business Manager, Superintendent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus.
• Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.
• Follow assigned route and adhere to set schedules.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit work orders as necessary,
• Communicate with department personnel, school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
• Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
• Properly operate all assigned communications equipment.
• Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries as they occur.
• Complete and submit all required reports and documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Inside and Outside

B. Climatic Environment – Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.

C. Hazards – Occasionally subjected to mechanical hazards, vibrations, adverse road conditions.

D. Work Year – This position is for a contract year. Duties of the position are performed between August 1 st and May 30 th .
