Job summary

Monroe County Consortium is seeking individuals to join their team as Bus Drivers. Candidates must complete a six-week training course and will be evaluated for placement on the substitute list upon completion of the course. An excellent driving record and a high school diploma or GED are mandatory.

Responsibilities include maintaining the safety of students and adhering to health and safety standards. Successful applicants will benefit from reimbursements for CDL license fees and training costs.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must have an excellent driving record.
  • Sensitivity to and interest in working with students with disabilities is necessary.

Job Summary

Monroe County Intermediate School District will conduct a six‑week bus driver training course for successful applicants. There is no guarantee of a position at the end of the course. Those who successfully complete all requirements will be placed on the substitute list.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Sensitivity to and interest in working with students with disabilities.
  • Good verbal, math, and grammar skills.
  • Subject to State and Federal drug/alcohol testing program.
Criminal History Check
  • A Michigan and FBI criminal history check post‑offer and prior to employment. The processing fee of $42.00 is the responsibility of the applicant.
  • Central Registry Clearance through the Department of Human Services for child abuse/neglect.
Health Requirements

CDL Physical. Fees associated with health requirements will be reimbursed to the applicant.

Fees Reimbursement

CDL license fee, CDL driving test fee, and three‑day bus driver training course fee will be reimbursed to those successfully completing the training.

Working Conditions
Physical Demands

The employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. The employee will occasionally assist in physical management of students.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 90 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well‑being of students. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud, requiring the employee to raise their voice to be heard. The employee must work with public and other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.
