Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Transport passengers on specified routes safely and timely.
  • Inspect vehicle prior to use and report necessary repairs.
  • Comply with traffic regulations and ensure passenger safety.
  • Comply with traffic regulations and report delays/accidents.
  • Ensure passenger safety during entry, travel, and exit.
  • Secure vehicle after passengers disembark and monitor safety.
  • Coordinate maintenance needs with supervisor as needed.
  • Follow DOT and Nebraska DMV requirements.
  • Perform post-trip inspections and refueling as required.
  • Clean interior of vehicle as needed.

Position Summary: Under the general direction and supervision of the Physical Plant Director of the Beatrice campus, the Bus Driver is primarily focused on operating those vehicles used to transport passengers on specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule. This is a part‑time temporary position.

Essential Functions
  • Inspect the vehicle prior to each use to ensure proper and safe operations.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger’s comfort.
  • Transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule, including overnight drives and extended trips requiring irregular hours.
  • Comply with all applicable traffic regulations and report all delays and accidents in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensure passenger safety upon entry and exit from the bus and throughout the duration of the trip.
  • Secure the vehicle when passengers have embarked to ensure safety and security precautions are met.
  • Report any necessary repairs and, in consultation with the Physical Plant director and/or the designee, make arrangements for routine maintenance and repairs to be performed.
  • Conform to and comply with all applicable federal and state transportation guidelines and requirements.
  • Fill up the bus with gasoline prior to returning to campus and perform a post‑trip inspection on the bus when returned.
  • Cleans the inside of the vehicle as necessary or as requested.
Marginal Functions
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College and may vary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to operate within all policies and procedures of Southeast Community College.
  • Current CDL license category (CDL B or CDL C with Passenger Endorsement) appropriate to driving College‑owned and/or rented passenger vehicles.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and cooperate with coaches, faculty, staff, and supervisory staff of the college.
  • Ability to work and travel at various hours including nights and weekends, when required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all applicable responsibilities set forth by the U.S. DOT and appropriate Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of Nebraska.
  • Individuals must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current CDL Class B or C with Passenger Endorsements.
  • Verifiable Two (2) years driving experience.
  • Applicants driving record and criminal background check must meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the College and the insurance carrier.
  • Ability to qualify for auto insurance coverage.
  • Must pass the pre‑employment DOT drug test.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience operating school or campus transportation vehicles.
  • Knowledge of local transportation routes and schedules.
Salary and Benefits

Salary: TBD

Part‑time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.

Schedule: Normal hours of work for this part‑time regular position are scheduled Monday through Friday, based on a 29‑hour workweek, 260‑day work calendar. Scheduled special activities or emergencies may require hours outside the regular workday or workweek.
