Job summary

LeeTran, part of Lee County Government, is hiring a year-round temporary bus driver to operate buses along scheduled routes, greet riders, collect fares, and ensure safe, comfortable service. The role requires a valid CDL, good driving record, and the ability to pass the Florida DOT medical exam.

Shifts include day and evening hours; evening shifts pay extra with differential. On-the-job training is provided to prepare for ADA accessibility duties and route navigation using GPS.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a Florida DOT Medical Exam and keep a current medical card

Responsibilities

  • Drive a bus along a set route and greet passengers
  • Collect fares and assist passengers with questions
  • Ensure a safe and comfortable ride (heat, air, lighting)
  • Follow ADA rules and assist passengers with disabilities
  • Check bus and equipment for safety and maintenance needs
  • Complete daily reports and paperwork
  • Use bus technology like tablets and GPS
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

Join our team as a year round Temporary Bus Driver and help people get where they need to go safely and on time. In this role, you will drive a bus along a set route, greet passengers, and make sure everyone has a safe and comfortable ride.

What You'll Do
  • Support transit operations in a year round temporary role.
  • Drive a bus, trolley, or tram safely along assigned routes.
  • Help passengers with questions and collect fares.

  • Make sure the bus is comfortable (heat, air, lighting).

  • Follow ADA rules and help passengers with disabilities, including securing wheelchairs.

  • Check your bus and equipment for safety and general maintenance needs.

  • Complete daily reports and paperwork .

  • Use bus technology like tablets and GPS.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED (or similar experience)
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass a Florida DOT Medical Exam and keep a current medical card
Licensing
  • Have a valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction, OR
  • Have a CDL Permit with Passenger Endorsement before hire
  • Must get a Florida Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement within 30 days of hire (training and testing provided onsite)
Preferred Skills
  • One year of experience driving a bus or large vehicle
  • Knowledge of Lee County roads with the ability to follow navigation systems
  • Ability to drive in all weather and at night
  • Good customer service and communication skills
Safety-Sensitive Position
  • Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card. This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and 655.
Schedule & Training
  • LeeTran runs 7 days a week, including some holidays (4:00 AM – 11:00 PM)
  • Day and evening shifts available
  • Evening shifts pay extra with shift differential
  • Training provided on the job
