The Big Walnut Local School District is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time bus driver position for the 2025-2026 school year. All training provided on‑site - bus drivers will start as a full-time van driver while training!

Description

The contracted driver shall work 6.5 hours, per negotiated agreement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Appropriate certification as required by ODE
• Appropriate certification as required by the State of Ohio (license with CDL endorsement)
• Must have current BCI and FBI background checks
• Able to pass all medical, drug and alcohol screening
• Demonstrates knowledge and or experience of school bus operation
• Demonstrates ability to work with children, parents, supervisors and colleagues
• Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board finds appropriate and acceptable

General Responsibilities

• Maintains order on the bus at all times.
• Drive students to and from their designated bus stop or place of residence to the appropriate school.
• Maintains a clean bus at all times.
• Maintains adequate amounts of fuel in the bus.
• Responsible for appropriate levels of all fluids.
• Responsible for pre and post trip inspections of bus.
• Responsible for meeting all federal, state/ODE, and local laws and regulations as they relate to school bus operation.
• Confers with the building principal regarding any student problems.
• Reports immediately to supervisor any problem or accident occurring on the bus.
• Reports immediately to the bus mechanic any problem or mechanical failure of the assigned bus.
• Adheres to all guidelines established for the use of communication equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
