Job summary

Dublin City Schools is seeking a dependable Bus Driver to provide safe, punctual transportation for students. The role requires a clean driving record, adherence to district policies, and ability to manage students during pickup and drop-off.

You must be at least 21, hold a Class B-SP CDL, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Substitute status is available during the training process; wage is $21.23 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 21+ years old with 2+ years driving experience.
  • Meets physical, mental and moral requirements per Ohio rules.
  • Physically qualified per Ohio Administrative Code 3301-83-07.
  • Ohio School Bus Driver’s license, Class B-SP endorsement.
  • Excellent communication and professional interaction abilities.
  • Neat and clean appearance.
  • Able to lift and assist students with special needs when necessary.
  • All drivers subject to Federal CDL Drug and Alcohol laws.

Responsibilities

  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Maintains discipline and order with students on the bus and at stops.
  • Keeps bus clean and fueled.
  • Maintains assigned schedule.
  • Completes daily pre- and post-trip inspections and documents.
  • Transports students safely at all times.
  • Notifies Coordinator of Transportation of issues like mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  • Leads in a professional manner during trips and school events.
  • Reports accidents promptly and completes required reports.
  • Develops and maintains clear route sheets for sub use.
  • Attends mandatory departmental in-service meetings.

Bus Driver

Job Status: FLSA Overtime Eligible

Reports to: Coordinator of Transportation

Department: Business Operations - Transportation

Position Summary: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extra curricular program.

Job Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age with a minimum of two years of driving experience.
  • Meets all the physical, mental and moral requirements established by federal rule, state laws and Chapter 3301-83 of Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Being physically qualified (Rule 3301-83-07 of Ohio Administrative Code).
  • Ohio School Bus Driver’s license, Class B-SP Endorsement Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact in a professional manner.
  • Appropriately dressed, neat and clean appearance.
  • Physical capability of appropriately lifting and managing preschool and students with special needs when necessary.
  • All drivers once employed are subject to the Federal Commercial Driver License Drug and Alcohol laws, including random, reasonable suspicion and post accident testing.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Duties
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Copes with stressful situations.
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline and order with students while on the bus and at their bus stops.
  • Uses department discipline ladder to report discipline issues to proper authority.
  • Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  • Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled.
  • Strives to maintain assigned schedule.
  • Performs complete daily pre and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle(s) including completion of appropriate documentation.
  • Transports students while driving in a safe manner at all times.
  • Notifies the Coordinator of Transportation in case of mechanical failure, tardiness, or absenteeism by the designated time.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  • Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  • Transports only authorized students, coaches, teachers and chaperones.
  • Reports all accidents as soon as practical and completes required reports.
  • Ensures that regulations for student bus responsibilities are followed.
  • Develops and maintains accurate LEFT/RIGHT and/or route sheets that are clear for sub use.
  • Conducts appropriate school bus evacuation and safety training.
  • Attends all mandatory departmental in-service meetings.
  • Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
  • Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA].
  • Ensures the safety of student.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgement.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Terms of Employment

Substitute status through training process.

Salary

$21.23/HR.
