Salary: $18-$25 hourly

Hours & Days
  • School Year: Monday–Friday, 10–15 hours (occasional weekends as scheduled)
  • Summer: Monday–Friday, 20–25 hours (occasional weekends as scheduled)

FLSA: Non-Exempt – At-will employment

As a Bus Driver for the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck, you play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable transportation for the youth we serve. You are often the first and last Club representative our members see each day, setting the tone for a positive and supportive experience.

More than just driving a route, you help create a sense of safety, consistency, and belonging for every child on board. Your commitment allows families to stay connected to the Club and ensures our members arrive ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

Primary Function

Under the general supervision of the Chief Operations Officer and the Chief Impact Officer, the Bus Driver is responsible for transporting members to and from school, club sites, and field trips safely. Drive the Bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.

Drivers must instruct children in safety precautions and practices, maintain discipline, and report unruly behavior to the Club/Unit Director and Chief Impact Officer. Inspect, sweep, and perform route pre‑trip checks of the bus daily. Driver must provide support and supervision on all trips transporting members. Understand and support the Club’s mission, to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as responsible, caring, and productive citizens.

Requirements
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents.
  • Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.
  • Maintain all required paperwork as needed by the Club/Unit Director & Chief Impact Officer.
  • Ability to work with staff, parents/guardians, school administration, and the community.
  • Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, pre‑trip inspection, field trip rosters, incident, and accident reports.
Other Duties
  • Abide by the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck Policies & Procedures.
  • Attend required training and workshops in their field.
  • Attend staff meetings, and other Club sponsored events.
  • Abide by Federal & State Laws.
  • Must provide quality customer service by meeting and greeting the public, parents, members, and outside groups who enter the facility.
  • Wear appropriate staff uniform while working at and/or attending Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Club/Unit Director and/or Chief Impact Officer.
  • Transport member and other passengers to and from School.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Always maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers.
  • Verify permissions for anyone riding the bus.
  • Assist riders with loading and unloading the bus as needed.
  • Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route.
  • Attend Safety meetings as required.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Age 25 or older with at least three years’ driving experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Clean Driving record.
  • Satisfactory background check.
  • Valid CDL Driver’s License required (School bus/Passenger/Air Brake Endorsements) preferred or needs to be obtained after employment.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to earn).

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud.
