Bus Driver

Primary Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Bus Driver is responsible for the operation of vans and small and large buses, in transporting children from school to the Clubs, and driving on designated field trips.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Transport compiled students from schools to designated clubs.
- Transport compiled students on designated field trips.
- Follow a pre-planned route according to a definite time schedule.
- Drive the bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations and bus operating procedures.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading, and transporting them from school to club.
- Instruct children on safety precautions and practices.
- Maintain proper paperwork for attendance of children.
- Maintain discipline; report unruly behavior to the Club Director.
- Inspect and sweep the bus on a daily basis.
- Report delays and accidents.
- Report defects or problems with vehicles to the Transportation Manager and maintenance.
- Ensure the bus meets the regular maintenance schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
Supervision:
Does not supervise any employees.
Key Result Area:
Consistently on time with student pickups.
Maintain a safe driving record.
Requirements
Job Specifications:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B or higher with both “P” and “S” endorsements.
- Completion of a First Aid Course.
- Completion of a performance test in bus operations.
- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.
- Able to take precautions to avoid accidents.
- Operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.
- Able to understand and carry out instructions.
- Must be able to perform work requiring good physical condition.
- Able to relate to children, parents and Boys & Girls Club personnel.
- Must be able to pass a D.O.T. physical.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to handle stress while dealing with passengers and traffic. Must be able to handle the responsibility for the safety of passengers.
