About the department / center: Transportation ServicesDepartment, responsible for transit, motor pool, and vehiclemaintenance.

Role Description

Under limited supervision provides transportation services tothe University Community and/or the public, performing duties whichrequire independent judgment in the application of procedures andmethods related to University Transit operations. OperatesUniversity Transit vehicles in a safe, reliable, and professionalmanner; conducts pre-trip/post-trip inspections in accordance withFederal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; provides housekeepingactions and other related assignments.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Operates University Transit vehicles in a safe, reliable, and professional manner while providing scheduled service on campus busroutes, University routes, and/or special charter operations.
  • Determines the eligibility of passengers to utilize bus routesand/or services.
  • Conducts pre-trip/post trip inspections in accordance withTitle 49 par 392.7 and applicable State driver’s manual for safetyand assurance of proper operating conditions prior to the start ofeach assignment.
  • Performs housekeeping and related assignments as required.
  • Documents clearly and concisely daily vehicle safetyinspections, ridership and mileage information, and any unusualoccurrences.
  • Maintains communications with dispatch center.
  • Recommends modifications, additions, or deletions to routes,schedules, procedures, and equipment which may improve the overalleffectiveness of the University Transit system.
  • Participates in departmental training and certification.
  • Assists students, staff, and the public by providinginformation, directions, and assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma (or G.E.D.) with three years related workexperience; or any equivalent combination of training whichprovides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) withpassenger and air-brake, and passenger endorsement required.
  • Applicant must not have had his/her driving privilegessuspended or revoked within the last five years.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of the manufacture,delivery, possession, or possession with intent to deliver acontrolled substance or a counterfeit controlled substanceclassified in Schedule I, II, III, IV, or V of Chapter 47 of Title16 of this State or like offenses in any other jurisdiction.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of any felony in thelast five years.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of any crime againsta child.
  • Must pass a driving road test and meet the minimum standardsfor Department of Transportation.
