Education/Certification
  • Preferred: High School Graduate or GED, Experience driving a large vehicle certification
  • Required: Commercial Drivers' License; Must obtain Passenger, School Bus and air brake endorsement prior to being assigned to a route; DPS School Bus Driver's Certification; National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course; First Aid Course/CPR; Blood Borne Pathogen Course
Personal Required
  • Pass required annual physical, criminal record check and prohibitive substance test
  • Operate special needs equipment, as required
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to administer basic 151 aid, in accordance with qualifications
  • Friendly but firm in dealing with students, parents, school administrators and the general public
  • Emotionally stable
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Have good communication skills including the ability to read and write English
  • Ability to climb over and around a bus engine compartment to perform mechanical post and pre trip checks
  • Ability to deal with emergency situations including bus evacuations
  • Ability to reach bus controls without unauthorized seat, pedal or steering wheel modifications

Function

Under the direct supervisor of the Supervisor for Operations, the bus driver shall provide safe transportation for all students assigned to a specific route or activity.

Reports To:

Operations Supervisor

Responsibilities
  • Follow operational rules and guidelines for the Office of Transportation
  • Follow school District policies
  • Safely transport students to and from home and school, on field trips and late runs as required
  • Obey all rules and regulations regarding the operation of a school bus and all equipment
  • Perform required safety checks and bus cleaning duties
  • Complete and submit required reports
  • Complete all required training courses
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Make no change to duties, bus or route without proper approval
  • Operate special equipment as required
  • Be able to drive all types of buses safely
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Salary
