This position involves responsible operation of an activity bus to transport patrons to and from various events organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. Work is supervised by recreation programming staff and reviewed through observation and patron feedback.

Position Details: Approximately 30 hours per week, with shifts varying to include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends based on departmental needs.

Examples of Duties

• Operate bus on assigned routes, adhering to traffic laws and DOT regulations.
• Ensure passenger safety during loading, unloading, and transit.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and maintain bus cleanliness.
• Report mechanical issues, traffic hazards, accidents, and other concerns.

Passenger Supervision and Discipline

• Maintain order and enforce policies on the bus.
• Assist passengers, including those with disabilities.
• Transport passengers to and from activities, ensuring they disembark at authorized stops.
• Check for lost items and report them.

Record Keeping and Communication

• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Attend training sessions and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students.

Other Duties

• Drive shuttle runs and trips, act as a chaperone, and observe safety regulations.
• Handle complaints and perform related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of driving experience and a Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Clean driving record with no more than 4 points in the past year.
• Completion of South Carolina School Bus Driver Training and DOT physical.

Physical Demands

Medium work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking, with exertion up to 20 pounds regularly.
