Job summary

The Northwest School in Seattle is hiring a 0.75 FTE bus driver for the 2026-2027 school year. This role is benefits-eligible and classified as full-time in practice. You will transport students aged 11-18 on scheduled routes and field trips, perform pre-trip inspections, and coordinate with the Transportation Manager.

A CDL Class B with appropriate endorsements is required, along with a clean driving record. We value reliability, teamwork, and commitment to student safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of licensed driving experience.
• Commercial Driver's License Class B with S, Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements.
• Clean driving record.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form.

Responsibilities

• Transports passengers on school routes and field trips safely and timely.
• Loads/unloads passengers and maintains safety during trips and emergencies.
• Maintains communication with faculty about trip changes.
• Performs basic fleet maintenance and documents mileage and maintenance.
• Attends requested meetings and adheres to school policies.

This is considered full-time and benefits-eligible.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Transports passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner; events and programs may include games, practices, scrimmages, activities, tutoring, and field trips.Provides safe loading and unloading of all passengers from buses during regular transport and emergency situations.Maintain communication with faculty regarding field trip changes and procedures.Provide basic fleet maintenance, including fueling, washing, daily pre-trip and minor repairs as well as documentation of mileage, fueling and maintenance performed on vehicles and all safety- related concerns to Manager of Transportation in a timely manner.Must be reliable, attendance during regular business hours or as needed is importantParticipate in meetings when requested.Follow the personnel policies of The Northwest School as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.Perform other duties as may be assigned to this position.Minimum Qualifications:All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school's mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity and the environment.High school diploma or equivalent and at least three (3) years licensed driving experience.Three (3) years of commercial driving experience (school bus driving is preferred).Commercial Driver's License, Class B with an S Endorsement and Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements.Clean driving record.Enjoy working with adolescents, aged 11-18.An ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a team.Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form.Submit and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and DOT physical screening; on-going random tests required per DOT regulations.Compensation & Benefits:Pay range is $34-36 per hour (depending on years of experience) with a guaranteed six (6) hours per day. A free lunch is provided for employees who work during the lunch hour.The Northwest School offers an excellent benefits package for employees who work 30 hours or more per week.
