Job summary

University Prep in Seattle is seeking a School Bus Driver to transport students on field trips, after-school activities, and routes after sports. The role supports the Transportation Manager and requires adherence to safety procedures.

This is a 10-month, full-time schedule (~32 hours/week) with a Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement and Washington DOT medical certificate. Eligible applicants must have a clean driving record and pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed required.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • DOT medical certificate required.
  • Experience with kids preferred.
  • School Bus (S) endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus daily for afternoon and after-school activities.
  • Perform pre-trip safety inspection of bus.
  • Maintain bus cleanliness and fueling.
  • Assist with basic vehicle maintenance and reporting repairs.
  • Attend trainings and comply with DOT regulations.
  • Provide safe transport for students and support school mission.

Assist with vehicle maintenance. The position will generally work from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on school days. A general workday is as follows:12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. | Afternoon field trips3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. | After school athletic events5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | After sports activity bus routeFull-time drivers are expected to drive on occasional weekends or overnight trips as needed. There will be an assigned supervisor on each bus trip to monitor students.UPrep adheres to all federal and state regulations, ensuring you receive all required rest breaks, meal periods, and applicable leave time.Specific Responsibilities:Drives a bus daily for afternoon and after school activities as assignedDrives the late afternoon activity bus route 5:30-7:00pmDrives weekends and long trips as scheduled within the 32-hour work week.Follows established safety proceduresPerforms a pre-trip safety/damage inspection of bus before each driveMonitors operating conditions of bus and reports needed servicing and/or repairs to Transportation manager and Director of FacilitiesPerforms basic maintenance tasks such as checking oil, securing mirrors, changing light bulbs, etc.Fuels vehicles as neededHelps maintain bus fleet by detail cleaning including washing bus exteriors, mopping interiors and washing windows regularlyMaintains bus parking and loading areas including leaf blowing, picking up trash, etc.Attends training programs, testing programs, first aid courses, refresher courses and other meeting as scheduledComplies with state laws, rules and regulations and school policies relative to student transportationConducts oneself in the best interest of students and in support of the school’s mission statement.Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documentsPerforms other duties as assignedRequired Education, Certifications & Experience:High School diploma or GED preferredClass B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed requiredClean driving record requiredValid Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate requiredExperience working with kids preferredSchool Bus (S) endorsement preferredExperience as a commercial or school bus driver preferredRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Good and safe driving skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionGood verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrates, cooperation, energy, enthusiasm, and an understanding of a school environmentFlexibility, maturity and a sense of humorExcellent customer service skills and strong work ethicAbility to work with students from diverse backgroundsAbility to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff, students, and parentsAbility to maintain confidential informationProficient in appropriate computer skills and office equipmentAbility to sit for long periods of timeAbility to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and talkAbility to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and armsAbility to climb a ladder and work while on ladderAbility to lift up to 50 poundsAbility to work outside in any weatherAbility to work some evenings and weekendsLocal travel is requiredMust submit to and pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and on-going random tests as required per Federal DOT regulations.Thank you for your interest in this position and in University Prep.
