Greater Ridgecrest Branch

Rate of pay: $14.50/hr - $19.00/hr ($17.50/hr base with S Endorsement)

Shift: Mid-day

Job Summary:

The Bus Driver, in alignment with the YMCA's mission, is responsible for transporting passengers to and from scheduled destinations following the policies set by the YMCA.

Education, Training, and Experience:

We value passion and intelligence. Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet all listed requirements. Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid Florida CDL license, and meet FMCSR Part 391 qualifications. Effective communication and organizational skills are essential. CPR/AED, First Aid, and S endorsement are preferred. Upon hire, completion of YMCA orientation programs is required. Get SMART training is preferred.

Special Skills:

Advanced understanding of school bus operation.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods, handle tropical climates, and remain composed under stress. Must have a current physical as mandated by state and county regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Role model SMART behavior.
2. Maintain cleanliness and discipline on the vehicle, and complete vehicle reports.
3. Create a safe environment by reporting suspicious activity and maintaining supplies and equipment.
4. Follow emergency procedures during accidents or breakdowns.
5. Remain with passengers at all times, especially during emergencies, and inform the Director immediately.
6. Operate the vehicle safely, adhering to all traffic signs and limits.
7. Keep the bus clean by removing trash and sweeping after each use.
8. Verify all children are accounted for after trips, conducting visual checks and raising the bus flag when empty.
9. Report to designated locations as assigned.
10. Maintain logs related to vehicle maintenance and operation.
11. Communicate maintenance concerns promptly to the Fleet Manager or Vice President of Building and Grounds.
