Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is seeking a Bus Cleaner to service, clean and maintain vehicles and equipment in the Transit Department. You will assist in the shop and support technical staff while following safety and DOT guidelines.

Licensing is required: North Carolina Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements to be obtained within six months. Hours are Monday–Friday with rotating Saturdays and Sundays. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

  • Reading and writing ability to level required for job performance.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine service and non-complex repairs on equipment and vehicles in the department.
  • Run errands, retrieve parts and materials, and deliver vehicles.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on transit fleet including fueling, greasing, and lubricating.
  • Service equipment with gasoline, alternative fuel, and oil; keep usage records.
  • Perform service calls, temporary repairs, and parts pickup.
  • Clean and repair shop and equipment.
  • Assist other automotive technicians with repairs.
  • Assist in general maintenance and cleanliness of the shop area.

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Bus Cleaner to perform routine work in servicing, cleaning and maintaining vehicles and equipment in the City’s Transit Department, to include transit equipment and buses; to clean and service the shop areas and equipment; to provide assistance to technical, supervisory and management staff.

  1. Perform routine and non-complex service and repair work on a variety of equipment and vehicles in assigned department.
  2. Run errands; retrieve parts, tools and other materials needed for mechanical repair; pick up and deliver vehicles and equipment from various locations such as outside garages, body shops, vendors, and dealers.
  3. Perform routine preventive maintenance of revenue and non-revenue Transit fleet; fuel, grease and lubricate automobiles, trucks and heavy automotive equipment; ensure appropriate fluid levels.
  4. Service automotive equipment with gasoline, alternative fuel, and oil; keep records of amounts used.
  5. Perform service calls; make temporary repairs; pick up parts.
  6. Clean and repair shop and equipment.
  7. Assist other automotive technicians in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
  8. Assist in general maintenance and cleanliness of automotive shop area.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: None.

Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability.

Preferred: None.

Working hours are Monday - Friday 4:30 PM - 12:30 AM; with rotating Saturdays 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM and Sundays 2:00 PM- 10:00 PM.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, background check and driving history check.
