Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of burning, CNC plasma, oxy-fuel, or plate processing experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints, work orders, burn sheets, and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of burning processes, plate identification, material handling, and quality standards.
  • Previous experience leading, training, or mentoring employees preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the daily activities of the Burning Department.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately, including sign-offs, burn sheets, plate identification, and plate code verification.
  • Verify all burning operations are performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and production requirements.
  • Train, mentor, and coach team members on burning processes, equipment operation, quality expectations, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure employees use the correct cutting tips, plasma consumables, gases, and machine settings based on material type and thickness.
  • Monitor cut quality and dimensional accuracy while addressing quality concerns throughout the production process.
  • Ensure proper storage, organization, and accountability of tools, fixtures, and equipment at each burn table.
  • Coordinate daily workflow and communicate production priorities with the Supervisor.
  • Ensure employees have the tools, consumables, materials, and supplies necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate equipment issues, production delays, quality concerns, and material shortages to the Supervisor.
  • Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Position Summary

The Burning Lead provides daily technical leadership and guidance to the Burning Department. This position ensures burning operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and production schedules. The Burning Lead serves as the department's technical resource, coaches team members, and supports the Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.


Key Responsibilities

Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach as required.

  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, fumes, and other manufacturing conditions.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and other required safety equipment.

  • Ability to safely operate CNC burning equipment, plasma and oxy-fuel cutting systems, overhead cranes, forklifts (if certified), and other material handling equipment as required.
