Overview

The CNC Burn Table Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC burn tables, typically plasma or oxy‑fuel cutting machines, to cut metal materials according to specifications. This position is an Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Setup and Programming: Prepare the burn table for production runs by selecting the correct programs, setting up torches, and ensuring proper alignment of materials.
  • Operation: Safely operate the CNC burn table, monitoring the cutting process and making adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload materials onto the burn table, often using overhead cranes or forklifts.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished parts for accuracy, remove burrs and slag, and ensure they meet specified quality standards.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the burn table to ensure optimal performance.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols related to operating the burn table and handling materials.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including material specifications and quality checks.
  • Ensure all operations comply with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, and housekeeping standards.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience running a CNC machine.
Skills and Behaviors

The work environment is a shop or field location with exposure to outdoor weather, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. The role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to follow safety protocols.

Physical Requirements

Standing: Constantly, Walking: Frequently, Sitting: Not Present, Lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, and other manual tasks as required.

Tools Used

Tape measure, stencils, bevel gauge, hand torch grinding, level, chalk line, sledgehammer.

Personal Protective Equipment

Hardhat, safety goggles or glasses with side shields (Z87 stamped), hearing protection, gloves, and safety toe shoes (ANSI 41.1 with steel toe and defined heel).

Audio‑Visual & Licensing Demands

Depth perception – Required, Color discrimination – Required, Peripheral vision – Required, Hearing (average) – Required.

Work Environment

Inside: Constantly; Wet or humid – Occasionally; Electrical hazards – Not present; Fumes – Not present. Outside: Frequent normal noise, occasional vibration, occasional extreme temperatures. Mechanical hazards – Constantly, hazardous chemicals – Not present.
