Job summary

Metals USA -- Plates Shapes is seeking a 1 st shift Burner Machine Operator for our Greensboro NC facility. The Burner Operator under limited supervision performs production activities requiring skill in production process and machine operation.

The role includes reviewing CAD drawings and work orders, setting up the burning machine, selecting tips, adjusting gas flow, performing quality inspections, and coordinating material handling including overhead crane use.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Basic reading and writing comprehension in English to read work orders, safety and policy manuals.
• Basic measuring skills read English & Metric systems with tape/caliper/micrometer.
• Basic arithmetic to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Basic knowledge of Windows software for loading designs to burn.
• Minimum one year experience operating burning machine or as machine operator helper.
• Experience operating overhead crane / forklift.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity and arm-hand steadiness.

Responsibilities

• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling including overhead crane operation.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up machine, selects burning tip, sets gas flow and feed rates, marks cuts and measures with gauges.
• Sets up and aligns material or fixtures in machine bed using gauges and hand tools.
• Performs quality inspections on finished product and in-process checks where required.
• Diagnoses problems and makes adjustments; removes scrap from machine.
• Stacks, bands, and palletizes finished products for shipment.
• Follows company and OSHA safety policies; maintains regular attendance.

Burner Machine Operator

1 st Shift

Metals USA -- Plates Shapes is seeking a 1 st shift Burner Machine Operator for our Greensboro NC facility.

Metals USA - Plates & Shapes Division is a solid, growth oriented carbon steel distribution center servicing the defense, commercial construction, road construction and fabrication industries.

The Burner Operator under limited supervision performs moderately to advanced production activities requiring skill and competency in production process and machine operation.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up machine, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates, location of cutting, lines dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences and uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers for measurement.
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims or hand tools.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Stacks, bands and palletizes finished products for shipment to customers.
• Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Burner Machine Operator.
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend

Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51-100lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Steel-toed boots
• Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
