Job summary

Metals USA Plates & Shapes Division invites applications for a Burner Machine Operator on the 1st shift in Greensboro, NC. The role focuses on operating burner machinery, setting up processes, and ensuring quality in carbon steel fabrication for defense, construction, and related industries.

Applicants should have at least 1 year of relevant machine experience, basic math and measurement skills, and familiarity with Windows.

Qualifications

• Must read and understand English work orders and safety policies.
• Ability to read English and metric measurements with a tape measure, caliper or micrometer.
• Basic arithmetic to calculate decimals and fractions.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows for loading designs.
• Experience operating a burning machine or as a machine operator helper (1+ year).
• Experience operating an overhead crane and forklift.

Responsibilities

• Review CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or written specs.
• Operate overhead crane for material handling as part of processing.
• Set up machine, select burning tip, adjust gas flow and feed rates; verify dimensions with gauges.
• Align material in machine bed and fixtures using gauges/tools.
• Perform quality inspections and reject/adjust as needed (In Process QA where applicable).
• Stack, band and palletize finished products for shipment; follow safety policies and code of conduct.

• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety and policy manuals)

Burner Machine Operator

1 st Shift

Metals USA -- Plates Shapes is seeking a 1 st shift Burner Machine Operator for our Greensboro NC facility.

Metals USA - Plates & Shapes Division is a solid, growth oriented carbon steel distribution center servicing the defense, commercial construction, road construction and fabrication industries.

The Burner Operator under limited supervision performs moderately to advanced production activities requiring skill and competency in production process and machine operation.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up machine, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates, location of cutting, lines dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences and uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers for measurement.
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims or hand tools.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Stacks, bands and palletizes finished products for shipment to customers.
• Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Burner Machine Operator.
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend

Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51-100lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
