Job summary

Metals USA in Greensboro, NC is seeking a Burner Machine Operator for 1st shift. The role involves operating a burner machine, setting up tooling, and coordinating material handling with an overhead crane.

You will read CAD drawings and work orders, perform quality inspections, and ensure safety and accuracy in production. The position requires basic math and measurement skills, plus prior machine operation experience.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or Equivalent is required.
• Basic reading and writing in English to read work orders and safety manuals.
• Basic math skills to read decimals/fractions and perform conversions.
• Basic measurement skills with English & Metric units using tape measure/caliper/micrometer.
• Familiarity with Windows software for loading designs.
• At least 1 year of experience operating a burning machine or as a machine operator helper.
• Experience operating an overhead crane or forklift.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Review CAD drawings and work orders to determine process steps.
• Coordinate material handling including overhead crane operation.
• Select correct materials per work order and set up the machine.
• Set gas flow, cutting lines, tolerances, and feeding rates; measure with gauges.
• Align material and fixtures in the machine bed.
• Perform in-process quality inspections and final QC.
• Stack, band, and palletize finished products for shipment.
• Follow company safety policies and OSHA regulations.

Burner Machine Operator

1 st Shift

Metals USA -- Plates Shapes is seeking a 1 st shift Burner Machine Operator for our Greensboro NC facility.

Metals USA - Plates & Shapes Division is a solid, growth oriented carbon steel distribution center servicing the defense, commercial construction, road construction and fabrication industries.

The Burner Operator under limited supervision performs moderately to advanced production activities requiring skill and competency in production process and machine operation.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up machine, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates, location of cutting, lines dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences and uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers for measurement.
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims or hand tools.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Stacks, bands and palletizes finished products for shipment to customers.
• Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Burner Machine Operator.
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend

Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51-100lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
