Qualifications

• At least 1 year operating a burning machine or as operator helper.

Responsibilities

• Review CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specs.
• Coordinate material handling including overhead crane operation.
• Select correct material per work order.
• Set up machine, select burning tip, adjust gas flow and feed rates.
• Align material in machine bed using gauges and tools.
• Perform in-process quality inspections as needed.
• Stack, band and palletize finished products for shipment.
• Follow safety policies and maintain attendance.
• Adhere to Code of Conduct and confidentiality requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Burner Machine Operator

1st Shift

Metals USA -- Plates Shapes is seeking a 1st shift Burner Machine Operator for our Greensboro NC facility.

Metals USA - Plates & Shapes Division is a solid, growth oriented carbon steel distribution center servicing the defense, commercial construction, road construction and fabrication industries.

The Burner Operator under limited supervision performs moderately to advanced production activities requiring skill and competency in production process and machine operation.

Responsibilities

• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up machine, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates, location of cutting, lines dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences and uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers for measurement.
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims or hand tools.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Stacks, bands and palletizes finished products for shipment to customers.
• Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Burner Machine Operator.
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend

Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51-100lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse

Work Environment

• Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety and policy manuals)
• Basic measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper or micrometer
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows software (for loading up design to be burned)
• Minimum one (1) year experience in operating burning machine or as machine operator helper
• Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator
• Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
