Job description

Prepare batches of gravy ingredients and/or super-micros for the kitchen according to approved formulas for the production run.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Read and accurately interpret batching sheets and other production documents to determine the order and quantity of ingredients. Batching sheets will also reference “super-micros” pre-weighed by Quality Assurance personnel, which must be added to complete batching requirements.
2. Stage ingredients to be batched. Clean totes to contain the batches.
3. Record production-related data accurately, including lot numbers, supplier information for each ingredient, batching date code on ingredient tags, and plan number for which the gravy is intended.
4. Inspect each ingredient bag during dumping for condition, foreign material, grain lumps, off color, off odor, infestation, or expired materials.
5. Perform batching by weighing each ingredient into the tote as per the card, then label and stage the tote.
6. Maintain a production schedule that keeps the operator 15 batches ahead.
7. Conduct general cleaning of the area, including the gravy room, filtration system, and dry ingredient area, ensuring all totes are vacuumed or wiped clean prior to batching. Cover unused ingredients to prevent contamination, and tape, date, and initial open bags.

Participate as a team member by developing, communicating, and implementing team concepts, programs, and policies. Attend team meetings and foster cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, plans, budgets, and policies. Identify and address areas lacking cohesiveness and work collaboratively to resolve issues, aiming for synergy within the organization.

OPERATING SYSTEMS & OTHER DUTIES

Familiarize with Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, environment, policies) and support these systems by understanding the impact of your actions and communicating concerns or improvement ideas.

PHYSICAL AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly sit, stand, and walk. Physically move bags of ingredients and totes weighing 40-60 pounds.
• Wear PPE including steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net, and safety glasses.

Travel: N/A.

Technical Experience: Machine operation preferred.

Industry Experience: Manufacturing or warehouse; knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
