Job summary

Primera Engineers is seeking a Buildings Division Manager to provide strategic leadership across Chicago and Denver, guiding growth, strengthening client relationships, developing technical talent, and driving operational excellence within multidisciplinary MEP teams.

The ideal candidate will bring 20+ years in the Buildings market, 10+ years in leadership, and a PE license, to shape the division's vision, mentor managers, manage P&L, and lead major pursuits for profitable projects.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of industry experience in buildings market.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary MEP teams.
  • Experience leading department managers, project managers and technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for the Buildings Division across Chicago and Denver.
  • Establish and execute the strategic vision, growth plan, and objectives for the Division.
  • Lead and mentor department managers, technical leaders, and project teams to ensure operational excellence.
  • Drive accountability through performance management, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Oversee division-wide resource management, staffing, budgets, and retention strategies.
  • Identify market opportunities, expand services, and drive sustainable growth.
  • Lead business development efforts and maintain key client relationships for major pursuits.
  • Ensure high-quality engineering solutions with profitability, schedule, and client satisfaction.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement across the Division.
  • Monitor financial performance including budgeting and revenue growth.

Job description

Our Buildings Division is a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty engineering solutions. We provide full-service engineering and design services for both new and existing facilities across a diverse range of markets, including education, healthcare, government, aviation, laboratory, municipal, commercial, and campus environments.

Position

We are seeking a Buildings Division Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversee the department as a whole across both our Chicago and Denver offices. This role will be responsible for guiding the growth and success of the Buildings team, strengthening client relationships, developing technical talent, supporting operational excellence, and driving the continued advancement of our multidisciplinary engineering services.

Who You Are
  • Strategic and accomplished engineering executive with 20+ years of industry experience and 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within the Buildings market, responsible for leading multidisciplinary MEP teams, expanding client relationships, driving operational excellence, and positioning the division for continued growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related building systems engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Electrical, Mechanical, or another applicable engineering discipline.
  • Strong technical foundation within the buildings industry, with the ability to leverage your engineering expertise to lead and oversee a multidisciplinary MEP department, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and related building systems.
  • Experienced leading large, multidisciplinary MEP teams, department managers, project managers, and technical staff.
  • Skilled in strategic planning, financial management, operations leadership, business development, and talent development.
  • Passionate about mentoring teams, driving accountability, and building a culture of excellence.
  • Experienced in managing departmental P&L performance, resource planning, staffing strategies, and growth initiatives.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide executive leadership for the entire Buildings Division, overseeing all MEP disciplines, operations, project delivery, staffing, and financial performance.
  • Establish and execute the strategic vision, growth plan, and business objectives for the Division.
  • Lead and mentor department managers, technical leaders, and project management teams to ensure operational excellence.
  • Drive accountability across the organization through performance management, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Oversee division-wide resource management, utilization, workforce planning, recruiting, and retention strategies.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify market opportunities, expand services, and drive sustainable growth.
  • Lead business development efforts, maintain key client relationships, and support major pursuits and proposals.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality engineering solutions while maintaining profitability, schedule performance, and client satisfaction.
  • Champion innovation, technology adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the Division.
  • Monitor Division financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue growth, and profitability metrics.
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on technical excellence, employee engagement, and client service.
