Job summary

Wisconsin Department of Corrections seeks a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to direct the Buildings and Grounds program, supervise staff, and guide maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds. You will participate in project planning, manage preventive maintenance and safety programs, and ensure proper supply and budget oversight.

The role requires coordinating security staff supervision and working hours that may include extended days.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining or repairing systems in building/institution complexes (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, grounds equipment).
  • Experience with CMMS or maintenance management software and basic Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance staff and direct department staff in planning and executing building, equipment and grounds maintenance.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance, pest control, and grounds programs; monitor supplies and equipment needs.

Job description

Position Summary

This position will assist with the direction of the Institution’s Buildings and Grounds Maintenance program, providing direct supervision to specified maintenance staff and providing direction to department staff in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and institution grounds. This position will participate in maintenance project planning, evaluation and management; direct the preventative maintenance, pest control, and grounds programs; determine supply and equipment needs; assist with monitoring budget expenditures; and conduct health & safety checks/inspections. Assigned responsibilities include monitoring supervision of Person in Our Care (resident) workers and supervising security staff to effectively carry out program functions.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-04 with a starting pay of $33.01 to $37.17. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period of one year is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. This position is not eligible for remote. Shift: Monday- Friday 7:45am- 4:30pm

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Maintaining or repairing systems commonly used in building/institution complexes. (i.e. heating, cooling & refrigeration systems, electric and mechanical equipment, food service equipment, grounds equipment, security systems, building structure components, plumbing, electrical, computerized and mechanical systems, and vehicles.)
  • Utilizing various computer operations and applications such as CMMS (Computerize Maintenance Management Systems) that manages workorders, online ordering, basic computer applications such as Microsoft, excel, outlook, etc.
  • Requesting, ordering, or purchasing replacement parts, equipment, machines, etc.

Well qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Performing Supervisory/lead worker duties (e.g. training, assigning duties, reviewing work, staffing process, interviewing candidates, hiring recommendations)
  • Planning and directing the maintenance and repair of service systems. (i.e. telephone, radio, computer local network, electric, security fences, cameras, natural gas, water distribution systems and storm, and sanitary sewer system.)
Special Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and will be required to meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements. Will be required to maintain a valid driver's license and eligibility to drive a fleet vehicle during employment.
  • Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
