Job summary

Boyne Resorts seeks a Buildings and Grounds Manager to oversee year‑round maintenance and operations at Pleasant Mountain. You will lead a team, manage a maintenance program for buildings and grounds, and coordinate with contractors to ensure safety, accessibility, and guest satisfaction.

The role requires 5+ years in facilities/grounds management, strong leadership, and proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility or grounds management.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proficiency in general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons and for emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign daily tasks and projects to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and feedback.
  • Oversee hiring and training of new staff.
  • Manage maintenance program for ski area buildings and facilities.
  • Perform and oversee repairs for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for large projects and ensure budget compliance.
  • Maintain interiors with painting, flooring, and minor repairs.
  • Supervise snow and ice removal during winter; oversee grounds maintenance in off-season.
  • Manage fleet of 2 shuttle buses and parking operations; oversee waste and recycling programs.
  • Develop and manage departmental budget; procure tools and maintain inventory.
  • Ensure safety compliance and conduct regular safety inspections.

Overview

The Buildings and Grounds Manager is a key role responsible for the year‑round maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of all buildings and surrounding grounds at Pleasant Mountain. This full‑time, salaried position requires a hands‑on and experienced professional who can effectively lead a team to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for guests and staff. The ideal candidate has a strong background in facility management, a track record of supervising and mentoring a team, and is comfortable working in a dynamic, weather‑dependent environment.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Management
    • Lead, train, and supervise a team of maintenance and grounds staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Schedule and assign daily tasks and projects, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members.
    • Oversee hiring and training of new staff.
  • Building Maintenance
    • Manage and execute a comprehensive maintenance program for all ski area buildings, including the Main and East Side lodges, rental shop, administrative offices, and dining areas.
    • Perform and/or oversee general repairs for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
    • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or large‑scale projects, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within budget.
    • Maintain building interiors, including painting, flooring, and minor structural repairs.
  • Grounds & Facility Operations
    • Supervise snow and ice removal operations during the winter season to ensure safe access to all facilities.
    • Oversee all grounds maintenance activities, including landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, and trail maintenance during the off‑season.
    • Manage a fleet of 2 shuttle buses, including staff and scheduling, primarily weekends and vacation weeks during the winter season.
    • Oversee all parking operations, including guests and employee parking, and shuttle bus transportation.
    • Manage and maintain parking lots, including patching, striping, and drainage.
    • Manage waste and recycling programs across the property.
    • Ensure all facilities and grounds meet safety and accessibility standards.
  • Administrative & Financial
    • Develop and manage the departmental budget for buildings and grounds, including labor, materials, and equipment.
    • Procure necessary tools, equipment, and supplies, and maintain inventory.
    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, work orders, and repairs.
    • Report on the status of all facilities to senior management.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections of buildings and grounds and promptly address any hazards.
    • Develop and implement safety procedures for the maintenance team.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility or grounds management.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, with a strong ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation (e.g., loaders, skid steers, snowplows) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons and for emergencies.
