Job summary

The City of Bellevue is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to review and evaluate commercial and residential plans for compliance with local, state, and national building, accessibility, energy, and related codes. This full-time role is part of Development Services and involves coordination with inspectors, engineers, and planners.

Ideal candidates have a two-year degree plus 3+ years in construction, and ICC certification within one year. Washington driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university.
• Three or more years of professional related experience in the construction industry or related areas.
• ICC Plans Examiner certification required within 1 year of hire.
• Valid Washington State driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and evaluates proposed building plan and specification blueprints to ensure compliance with building, energy, accessibility, and related codes.
• Coordinates plan reviews, inspections, and enforcement actions.
• Maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.
• Communicates with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, owners, and the general public.
