Job summary

Homestake Peak School is seeking a Building Paraprofessional to provide instructional, behavioral and personal support to students across general education, special education, preschool, and SLA programs. The role supports licensed staff to promote student learning, independence and success.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers, adapting materials, supervising students, and contributing to therapy programs and IEP goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Basic clerical and organizational skills.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering instruction to individuals and small groups.
• Support student participation in general education and special education settings.
• Adapt materials and activities to meet individual student needs.
• Reinforce academic concepts and assist with assignments and assessments.
• Assist students with daily routines, transitions, mobility and self-care.
• Support students with medical needs as trained.
• Facilitate communication using sign language or assistive technology.
• Implement behavior intervention plans and monitor student safety.
• Assist with preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
• Support therapy programs and IEP goals under licensed staff.
• Maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
• Assist with clerical tasks (copying, filing, inventory).
• Supervise students in classrooms, playgrounds, lunchrooms, field trips.
• Provide first aid as trained and manage emergency situations.
• Support safe arrival/dismissal and transitions throughout the school day.
• Maintain records of student behavior and progress.
• Provide feedback to teachers and families, including translations if needed.
• Attend staff meetings and conferences; substitute as needed.

Homestake Peak School is looking for a Building Paraprofessional to join their team. This position will help with a variety of instructional support to students with an emphasis in mathematics.

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students across a variety of educational settings, including general education, special education, preschool, and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) programs. Works under the direction of licensed staff to support student learning, independence, and success.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

Instructional Support

• Assist teachers in delivering instruction to individuals and small groups.

Student Support & Care

• Assist students with daily routines, including transitions, mobility, and self-care (e.g., toileting, feeding, hygiene).


• Support students with medical needs as trained (e.g., feeding tubes, tracheostomy care, catheterization).


• Facilitate communication using alternative systems (e.g., sign language, assistive technology).

Behavioral Support

• Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive student behavior.


• Monitor student safety and respond to behavioral or emotional needs.


• Utilize approved safety and de-escalation techniques (training provided).

Classroom & Program Support

• Assist with preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.


• Support therapy programs and IEP goals under direction of licensed staff.


• Maintain a clean and organized learning environment.


• Assist with clerical tasks (copying, filing, inventory, etc.).

Supervision & Safety

• Supervise students in classrooms, playgrounds, lunchrooms, and during field trips.


• Assist in emergency situations, including providing first aid as trained.

• Provide feedback and observations to teachers and staff.


• Support communication with families, including translation if applicable.

Professional Responsibilities

• Attend staff meetings, team meetings, and conferences as appropriate.


• Act as a substitute in emergency situations, as needed.


• Perform other duties as assigned.
