Position Summary

Location: ST. LOUIS, MO 63130

Scheduled Hours: 37.5

The Building Operations Coordinator position is responsible for performing building operations services for all libraries under central administration, including transporting library materials including archival and irreplaceable items, responding to building emergencies, and collaborating with departmental and Libraries-wide colleagues to ensure services are aligned to internal and external customer needs. The role also involves processing and handling domestic and international mail and library collections shipments; managing room set-up activities for high-profile administrative and donor events; using a variety of equipment, tools and technologies to streamline day-to-day workflows; and collecting building and service usage statistics to facilitate data-driven decision making.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Retrieves and delivers materials in an accurate, safe and timely manner at on- and off-campus locations.
  • Performs handling and transportation of special collections materials, which are archival, valuable and sometimes irreplaceable.
  • Communicates and collaborates with supervisor and colleagues to plan and confirm timing and logistics.
  • Uses a variety of software to process mail and shipments, manage shipping and delivery workflows, and maintain accurate records and statistics for troubleshooting and decision making.
  • Maintains clean and safe working environment including but not limited to loading docks, Olin Library tunnel, and library storage areas.

Performs building operations, facilities, safety and security functions, which may require flexible shifts and being on call to respond to emergencies during scheduled and not-scheduled hours.

  • Follows up on facilities requests and work orders at all libraries under central administration.
  • Receives regular training and participates in collaborative building emergency response, including evacuations due to fire alarms, severe weather conditions, and campus threats.
  • Serves as a member of the library safety committee.
  • Gathers and compiles space usage data using a variety of tools and technologies to support assessment and data-driven decisions.

Performs room and space set-ups for Libraries events and activities, including administrative and high-profile events, as well as staff workspace preparations and relocations.

  • Sets up furniture and spaces in a safe manner and according to standard layouts and custom requests.
  • Assembles, disassembles and/or moves furniture, accessories and supplies associated with staff workspace improvements and relocations.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and colleagues to ensure set-ups and timing align to customer needs.

Training and professional development, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$17.87 - $27.06 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
